5 BU recruits taken in 2014 NHL Draft

5 future Boston University Terriers were taken in this weekend's NHL draft. This was tied for the most of any college program with Newton University Boston College. This certainly is one indicator to the strength of the recruiting class that the staff is bringing in for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The highlight of the freshman class is Jack Eichel who would have been taken first overall if he was eligible for this draft.

The first player taken was 2015 recruits Maxim Letunov by the Saint Louis Blues in the second round and 52nd overall. Letunov has some flashy offensive skills but currently weighs in at 155 lbs. He certainly needs to throw on some muscle before he gets to BU next fall and St. Louis in the years following that. He currently plays for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL.

BU Hockey NHL Draft Preview

As the NHL draft begins tonight, it is interesting to watch which college prospects are taken and which round they go as this has an impact how long they can be expected to play at the collegiate level. It is not the only factor as the players must perform to get offered that NHL contract but it is a good indicator. Now let's hope none of these guys go to the Canadians and it will be a successful draft in our eyes..

John MacLeod- The physical defenseman is ranked as the 44th skater in North America for this year's draft. Most mock draft have him being drafted in anywhere from the 2nd to 4th round. Macleod will arrive on Comm Ave to begin his career as a Terrier this fall.
Prediction- 3rd round

Brandon Hickey- Hickey is another highly touted defenseman who will arrive at BU this fall and should be fighting for ice time right away. He can fire and move the puck at the blueline which makes him a valuable piece of this team moving forward.
Prediction- 3rd round

3 Quick Thoughts About #USMNT Win Yesterday vs Ghana

Heroic win by Team USA. Amazing first goal, even sweeter winner. Here are the 3 things I noticed yesterday:

1. Cameron played exceptional at centreback. Composed and willing to put in a tackle at crucial times. By far the best player on the pitch for Team USA.

2. Some of the best attacking by Team USA came from Fabian Johnson combining with Bedoya on the right flank. Only happened twice but each time gave USA great chances to expand their lead.

3. USA needs to find a different way to play with Altidore injured. They kept looking for the long ball after he was taken off and didn't have a proper striker for holding up the ball.

BU Hockey Schedule Released

The schedule for 2014-2015 has been released and included 33 games including 3 exhibition games.
The opener is an exhibition game against St. Thomas, a canadian university, on Saturday 10/4 while the regular season opener is 10/10 at UMass. Other highlights of the schedule include home games against Michigan, Michigan State, Union, Colgate and Notre Dame (x2). The team will also travel to Wisconsin and Dartmouth in addition to it's league opponents. BU will only play 33 regular season games as a result of playing exhibition games against the USA U-18 and USA WJC team. These should both be great contests to watch, exhibition game or not. I would take these two games over playing some crap Atlantic Hockey team at home that has no benefit besides the possibility of losing early in the year with a young team. The USA U-18 game is great for recruiting and the WJC game at Walter Brown will be great besides watching Jack Eichel play against his own teammates.

Fans in the twitter world are already going on complaining but I'd prefer Coach Quinn spending his time recruiting over building the perfect schedule. It is strong enough of out conference to give the team plenty of quality opponents to make the NCAA tournament. 33-0-0 is our official initial prediction.  Vote in our new poll up to the right. Puck drops in 120 days.
