BU continues to own the recruiting trail

BU picked up a huge commitment for next season yesterday with star forward Shane Bowers of the USHL announcing his commitment to BU. Bowers picked BU over BC and Wisconsin because he probably wants to win in college and then play in the NHL which you can only do at one of those three schools right now. Bowers is the latest addition to another stacked class for David Quinn and Co. and should be the last the forward commitment for the 2017 class. Bowers joins classmates Logan Cockerill, Brady Tkachuck, Ty Amonte, and Hank Crone as forwards for next year's class.

BU's 18 year olds crush Sacred Heart's 24 year olds

The BU Terriers get back on the winning track in their regular season opener with a convincing 7-0 victory over Sacred Heart. BU got goals from 7 different players including the first collegiate goals for freshmen Dante Fabbro and Chad Krys. The Terriers were lead by Jordan Greenway and Nick Roberto(sucks to suck NCAA) who each had a goal and two assists while freshman Jake Oettinger recorded his first career shutout in net.

BU dominated play for the majority of the game outshooting the Pioneers 40-24 with only the second period being close in shots(13-12) and that was mostly due to BU having to kill off two 5 on 3 powerplays. BU did what a Hockey East team should do to an Atlantic Hockey team despite the league's 1-3-2 record against Atlantic hockey teams before last night.

Why Your Team Sucks- UConn

This is part 5 of an 11 part series on the bad teams in Hockey East(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4)

Your Team: Uconn Huskies
2015-2016 record: 11-21-4(6-12-4)
Your outlook: Better than the four previously mentioned teams but still not a serious contender. It really is amazing how top heavy of a roster former BC assistant coach Cavanuagh has assembled down in Storrs. There are literally four good players on the entire roster. Actually, it is quite believable if you take a look at BC's roster. Letunov fell into his lap when his academics became an issue everywhere else. They still have little to no depth throughout the roster despite having average goaltending and two 30+ point scorers last season. They should be better but they won't be because their assistant coach(Joe Pereira) is 10X the coach that their head coach is and ever will be.

Weekend Recap: BU brushes away Colgate

The BU men's hockey team killed a 5 on 3 powerplay early in their season opener and never looked back. BU got goals from Patrick Harper(x2), Nick Roberto(shorthanded), Clayton Keller, Tommy Kelly and sophomore assistant captain Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson. Freshman goalie Jake Oettinger was huge(literally and figuratively) in goal including a penalty shot save. The win is obviously a great start to the season especially in comparison to last year's opening loss at Union where the team had numerous defensive breakdowns. This BU team should win lots of games but the question has been  and will continue to be if they can bring it night in and night out since they are so young. This has never been an issue with a David Quinn coached team so I am not concerned that this will actually be an issue going forward. The team seems to be pretty set on blocking out the hype around them the best they can and so am I. Only game that matters/exists is Denver next weekend.

Why your team/coach sucks: UVM Wildcats

This is part 5 of an 11 part series (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 can be seen by clicking or scrolling down)

Your Team: UVM Wildcats
Your 2015-2016 record: 15-22-3(6-13-3)
Your outlook: UVM will finish somewhere in the middle of the pack in the conference standings. They were picked 9th by the coaches but they could easily finisher higher if they get an improved year from goalie/midget Mike Santaguida who posted a .913 save percentage last season.  They return virtually all of their forwards from last season as well as adding freshman Ross Colton who should be able to play a top 6 role immediately. The real question will be can the defense provide any offense at all with top dmen Alexx Privitera and Yvan Pattyn graduating. This gets to my next point which is what type of coaching they are going to need but not going to get to make any noise in conference.
