More Odds and Ends (and a Ben Rapelisberger Update)

-Roger Goodell stated Monday on Dan Patrick's radio show that Steelers QB/assaulter of girls across the country Ben Roethlisberger (read: Rapelisberger) has officially violated the NFL's personal conduct policy and will be punished by the league. Although Roethlisberger was not charged in court, Goodell feels that the punishment is necessary based upon prior conduct: "You do not have to be convicted or even charged of a crime to be able to demonstrate that you've violated a personal conduct policy, and reflect poorly not only on themselves, but all of their teammates, every NFL player in the league and everyone associated with the NFL". According to ESPN , Goodell will most likely hand down a conditional suspension to Roethlisberger, the same punishment given to Michael Vick . The Steelers organization has also previously related that they want to punish their rapist of a QB, although perhaps they will refrain from doing so if the league's punishment is great enough. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Roethlisberger's future plays out...

-The Bruins won Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Sabres last night, 2-1 at the TD Garden. The B's took a 2-1 series lead with the victory, with game 4 coming Wednesday in Boston. The Game 3 victory was led by goalie phenom Tukka Rask, who stood on his head all night for the B's, making 32 saves. The Sabres scored their lone goal in the first period, a wrister from the left circle that beat Rask high and to his left. The B's knotted it at 1-1 later in the first, on a bomb of a slapshot from Dennis Wideman that beat Ryan Miller right past his stick. The game winner came from Patrice Bergeron on a quick wrist shot from the right circle, off a great hustle play and feed from Mark Recchi...

-The Celtics are back in action tonight, Game 2 against the Heat at 8 p.m. The Celts won the first game to take a 1-0 series lead and look to extend their lead without a suspended Kevin Garnett tonight. Coach Rivers has not revealed who will start in place of KG, but it seems likely that it will be either Rasheed Wallace or Glen "Don't Call Me Big Baby" Davis. Hopefully the C's can find a way to win without one of the Big 3...

-The Red Sox are officially in a slide. After getting getting swept at home against the Ray's this weekend (including an 8-2 loss on Monday), the Sox have now lost 6 in a row and are 4-9 on the year. In a year that is supposedly focused on "run prevention", the Sox have been doing everything but prevent runs from scoring. Against the Ray's, John Lester and John Lackey both got shelled - Lester giving up 7 runs over 6 innings and Lackey 8 runs in 3 and 1/3. The BoSox also went 0-30 in the series with runners in scoring position, which is pathetic. Now I know it's only 13 games into the year, but this is still disconcerting if you are a Sox fan. All Theo Epstein kept saying all year was that this season would be less about scoring runs and more about preventing them. Well so far they have succeeded in not scoring, but are lacking in the whole area of preventing scoring. Let's hope this turns around starting tonight, as Wakefield takes the hill against the Rangers at 7...

-Also, I was almost right about the captains for the Terrier's mens hockey for next year. I'll take it...
