Weekly Pick Em Week 9

Here are the updated standing for our weekly picks. Ray and GW are holding down the bottom of the food chain and will stay there as long as they skip making their picks. Things That Don't Suck About BC

During the past three seasons, I have made lists of the reasons why BC sucks. You can find my most recent one at that link and it is extremely accurate. This week I am taking on a different angle - things that don't suck about BC...

Monday Polls and Weekly Awards

The weekly awards and polls came out yesterday afternoon and I'm lazy so I'm just getting to this now. Below is my breakdown of the USCHO poll and links to other weekly awards and rankings. Happy Hate BC week everyone.

1. BC(49)- They play BU this weekend as their coach approaches some fake overall win record. We all know York's wins in the CCHA(from his time at Bowling Green) don't count. It 's like D-III out there.
2. UNH(1)- The good news is that they escaped their Colorado road trip with a tie and a win. The bad news is that Casey DeSmith looked very beatable all of a sudden.
3. Minnesota- They have a weak strength of schedule so far so it is tough to know what type of team they are until they start facing some tough competition.
4. Miami
5. Denver- They blew a 4-0 lead at home to UNH giving up hat tricks to two separate players in the process the night after losing to Yale in OT.
6. Notre Dame
7. North Dakota
8. Union- They beat Penn State wooooaaaahhhh
9. BU- Nice 4-0 win over a St. Lawrence team they should have beat and did. They continue to beat teams that they should beat. Their next 3 games are against the top 2 teams in the nation though which makes it a crucial stretch to get atleast 1 or 2 wins out of it.
10. Western Michigan- Still one of my Frozen Four picks. Granted they need to get out of BU's regional because the Terriers aren't going to lose in the second half.

Meme Monday: BC Week Edition

This week's Meme Monday comes to you as your Terriers prepare for the annual home and home against Boston College.  We've got a bunch of good ones for you this week, including a sizable amount of BC hate. Let's get it started!

First up, we have a new series that we like to call "Serious Terriers"

ATTENTION ALL ALUMNI LOCATED IN THE NYC & WASHINGTON DC AREA

On this Friday (Nov. 30th), the BU alumni associations for NYC and DC are having a BU vs BC watch party combined with an ugly sweater-holiday party combo at a local bar in their respective areas. For a fee of $10 (no surprise), you get a (1) drink, food, and a chance to enter the drawing held at the end of the night. Also if you dress in the ugliest sweater you win a prize.

For any of the current students that are from NYC or DC and are going to be around that weekend in their home cities and above the age of 21. Just enter the bar as a rando and watch the game. Guarantee it will be on many TVs and you get to watch it with fellow BU Mens Hockey fans. Sounds like a win-win.

Just go to the alumni website and look for events tab and specifically the Nov. 30th date. Click the respective city and fill out the information and pay the money. You can bring a guest too and they cost the same. You'll probably see me if you know me for Friday at the Village Pourhouse in NYC. Come say HI and quack like QuackQuack does.

Saturday recap: BU pummels Saint Lawrence

The Boston University Terriers improved to 7-4-0 on the season after dropping the 6-4-2 St. Lawrence Saints 4-0 on Saturday night at Agganis Arena. The Terriers got a goal from each of their four lines and dominated the game from the opening face off. St Lawrence seemed tired throughout the game, which may have been because they played(and beat) Northeastern Friday night at Matthew Arena.BU out shot SLU 47-21 which tells the story of the game. The Terriers had many more quality chances and this game could have been 7 or 8-0 fairly easily. Freshman Sean Maguire earned the win and the shutout in his first career home start. He was perfect in goal and left very little to chance as his defense played very well around him. The win improves the Terriers out of conference schedule this year to 2-1-0 and was a must win when it comes time for the NCAA tournament selection in March.

The Terriers dominated the first period but only had one goal in the period as SLU goalie,Matt Weninger, made 16 of the 17 shots thrown at him. Wade Megan had the BU goal as he took a pass from freshman dman Ahti Oksanen and sniped a twisted wristah under the crossbar into the back bar in the net which was ruled a goal after a quick review by the referee. BU continued to dominate play throughout the second period but continued to get stuffed at the goal by Weninger. The Terriers finally put one home when Sahir Gill split the SLU defense and fed Sam Kurker for his first career collegiate goal as he slammed one five hole on Weninger. That was a huge goal and clinched the game. The Terriers added two more in the third to make it 4-0. Ben Rosen had the third goal minutes after SLU Sean McGovern took a cheap shot at his head away from the play. The fact that it wasn't a five minute major is a travesty but Bendetto was the ref so the missed call comes as a shock to no one.  Matt Nieto added the fourth goal with 39 seconds left which sealed the game and the Cane's Challenge(free chicken for everyone!). BU also shutdown the top two scorers in the nation in Kyle Flannagan and Greg Carey. This was the most complete effort from the team this season and is great to see leading into next weekend's home and home with BC.

NFL Pick 'Em Week 12

After going 2-1 during midweek, I will try to improve on that and have a even better winning percentage for this week. As always aim for perfection.

Vikings vs Bears: Cutler, as of right now, isn't suppose to play. Bears won't know how to score now. Expect the Vikings to turn on the pressure early and not stopping until the game is over. 28-12 Vikings

Falcons vs Bucs: Bucs are my surprise team for this year. When Greg Schiano was hired most football analyst said by the end of the year he is gone. He has 6 wins now and keeping his team in the hunt for a wild card spot. Taking the Bucs cause I hate Matt Ryan. 35-28 Bucs

49ers vs Saints: a rematch from the playoffs last year. Maybe the best game in the playoffs last year if not for the Super Bowl. Saints have won 3 straight. 49ers are starting a 2nd string QB. Yes, Colin Rand Kaepernick played well last week but this game is different. Forget the Saints record, they are still in the elite plateau of the NFC teams. 38-24 Saints

Packers vs Giants: It seems like the NFL wants this to be the Brady vs Manning in the NFC. I can't disagree. Rogers is the best QB for the last 2 years and Manning just knows how to win big games. I know most readers will hate this comparison but Eli reminds me of a young Brady (reliant on his defense and run game instead of his arm but knows how to lead a drive to win a big game) and Rogers reminds me of Peyton (both dominate and at their peaks). 24-20 Giants.

Weelly Pick Em Week 8

I am still holding onto my 2 game lead over FM with MWW making a strong push the last couple of weeks. HS is collapsing like a house of cards while Raymundo has decided that his .510 winning percentage is strong enough so that he doesn't need to make picks anymore.GW's winning percentage improved with his 4-6 record last week. That sums up his season pretty well.

QQ 39-23 ( .629) Last 5-5
FM 37-25 (.597)  Last 6-4
MWW 33-26(.559) Last 5-5
Ray-  25-24(.510) Last 0-0

NFL Turkey Day Pick 'Em

Happy Thanksgiving followers! Today wouldn't be as special without football. So we have 3 great games on tap for today. As always aim for perfection.

Texans vs Lions: Fun Fact: Lions haven't won a game on Thanksgiving in 9 years. So I am hoping the trend continues. Texans win by 2 TDs. 35-21

Redskins vs Cowboys: this will a great game to watch mid meal if you can find away from the dinning room table. RG3 should be able to shove a few points up Rob Ryans ass and handle the lead with care. Enough care to win. 20-14 Skins

Pats vs NYJ: The Best Game In My Honest Opinion for Today. Pats held serve at home and I think the Jets can do the same too. Having Gronk hurt doesn't help Patriots cause. Still think Cro will pick one off just to piss off GW. 24-17 Jets

Again Happy Thanksgiving from the BSRS Crew to your family & friends! Gobble Gobble In My Belly!

Weekend recap: Split City

The BU Terriers split their two Hockey East games this past weekend. They began the weekend with a 6-2 win over the UVM Catamounts and then dropped a close 3-1 game to UNH at Agganis Arena. Overall, it's not the weekend you wanted but it also wasn't terrible. The split leaves the Terriers at 6-4-0 overall  and 5-3-0 in Hockey East play which is good for third place currently. They continue to take care of lesser opponents and struggle to break through against teams ranked top 5 nationally as their record sits 1-4 against teams ranked from #1-7  and 5-0 against everyone else. Their next game comes against St. Lawrence in a non-conference tilt next Saturday at Agganis Arena.

Friday night, the Terriers scored at will against UVM, who failed to sustain any offensive pressure all night after a 5 on 3 right at the beginning of the game on two borderline calls. The penalty killers and goalie Sean Maguire came up huge to keep the game scoreless. After that point, it was all BU. Freshman defensman Ahti Oksanen scored his third goal of the season during a BU PP. His goal was followed by junior Sahir Gill scoring his first goal of the year(on a great pass from Matt Grzelcyk) and Wade Megan adding one 40 seconds later to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead after one. The Terriers continued to score at will in the second as Alexx Privitera let off a wicked wrister on a powerplay to make it 4-0 before UVM's Chris McCarthy put UVM back within 3.

Privitera's goal was the one that chased UVM tendy Brady Hoffman from the game and brought in back-up sieve Billy Faust. He did not fare much better as Wesley Myron would then score his first career goal, breaking the goalie camera/part of the back post while he was it. Sean Escobedo turned in the move of the night to make it 6-1 with his slick spin move and wrister that beat Faust 5-hole.  The third period was uneventful besides a UVM powerplay goal to get to the 6-2 final. There was alot to be happy about for the team and the 35 man BU student section that dominated the noise level at the Gutt all night.

Week 11 NFL Pick 'Em

Let's get straight to it. Always aim for perfection.

Green Bay vs Lions: Lions need this game. Lions are looking for the Wild Card spot. Lions by a late TD scored by Megatron.

NYJ vs Rams: Jets suck. Pretty depressed about this team. Rams and Brian Scotty wins by a few TDs.

San Diego vs Denver: Rivers & Co. need this game to stay in the AFC West but Peyton is playing exceptional. Peyton has struggled against SD in the past but Denver has a defense to back him up now. Denver and their pot smoking ways win by 2 TDs.

Indy vs Pats: Luck vs Brady! Yes, I think Luck is the next coming of the QB for all time QBs. This will be a gunslinger match up. I want this game to be entertaining. Maybe 38-31 Pats.

Baltimore vs Pittsburgh: put the check mark next to the Ravens especially with Ben (There Raped That) hurt.

Chicago vs SF: Whichever defense scores more points will win this game. SF with the win in a close match up.

In other news, look for a special Turkey Day Pick Em because turkey and football just are awesome together and OH yeah Pats vs Jets.

Hockey East Pick Em Week 7

Another week of Pick'EM at BSRS and more of the same for everyone. This is a good thing for FM, HS, MWW and myself but not so much for GW who continues to make the dumbest picks I have ever seen. UAH twice over NU? I guess he thinks 20 hour bus ride pre-game is the recipe for success. Anyway, here are the standings as of this week.

QQ 34-18 (.654) Last 6-4
FM  31-21 (.596) Last 6-4
HS  28-21 (.571) Last 5-5
MWW 28-21(.571) Last 6-4
Ray   25-24 (.510) Last 4-6
GW  17-32 (.310) Last 3-7

Week 7

Friday 11/16

Merrimack @ BC

QQ- Merrimack 3-2 - Screw BC. Everyone is crowning their asses already. I'm about to go Denny Green on all of you.
FM- BC 4-1- Bad times beginning up in Andover
HS- Mack 100-0- FUCK BC MACK WINS FUCK EVERYTHING.
MWW- Merrihack 4-3. BC played pretty well last week but considering most of the goals were fluke goals in my honest opinion, I am predicting Merrihack to pull the upset with a Bigos winner
Ray
GW - Merrimack 4-1. Seriously I fucking hate BC

NU @ PC

QQ- PC 4-3. I'm just taking the home team because both have been struggling in the conference as of late.
FM- PC 2-1- Friars still looking better than NU, even after UMass loss
HS- 3-1 NU -This one looks like a pretty even match up to me. I think Mountain steals the game for NU though
MWW- 3-2 PC - screw Sap, PC winner chicken dinner
Ray
GW - PC 2-1. GIIIILLLLIIIIEEESSSSS

UMass @ Maine

QQ- Maine 3-2. Alfond is still a tough place to play and I think Maine figured out some stuff this weekend in Lowell. The fight for 4th in HE remains a mystery
FM- UMass 4-3- Minutemen looking good still, even if Maine is beginning to right the ship
HS- UMass 4-1 - Fight Mass will enjoy watching this one
MWW -UMass 4-2- still think Maine sucks. UMass wins
Ray
GW - 3-0 Zoomass. Maine blows.

Weekend Preview- Way too many cats

The BU Terriers mens hockey team takes on two northern, state-school, conference opponets this weekend. They first travel up to Burlington, Vermont for a game Friday night with the 1-3-2 Catamounts. The conclude the weekend back at Agganis Arena hosting the #5 ranked 6-1-1 UNH Wildcats. These are two big conference games for the Terriers as they need atleast 3,if not all 4 points to remain in the top tier of Hockey East.

First, BU travels to Burlington, Vermont for an away game at a tough place to play in the Gutterson Fieldhouse. BU won both games up there last year with the second being a late comeback and OT win. Last year's Vermont squad was one of the worst in Hockey East history and only recorded 7 points(3-23-1) in conference on the year. This year's squad seems to be improved despite some early departures such as Sebastian Stalberg. They have already grabbed 4 points and are over half way to last year's total only 6 games into the 27 game conference schedule.  Their lone win this year came at home versus PC two weekends ago and they have scraped together ties at Merrimack and at Lowell. Their leading scorer is senior forward Chris McCarthy who has 4 points in 6 games but they have an even scoring attack as 13 players have recorded a point for them thus far including former BU recruit Robert Polsello who has put up a stunning 0-1-1 line in 6 games thus far. UVM seems to have solved  their goalie issues from last season in freshman tendy Brody Hoffman. He has posted a solid statline (.918 save %, 2.44GAA). All he needs now is to get some more wins. Offense has been the struggle for UVM as they have scored more than 2 goals once all season and average 1.7 goals/game. It would make sense for BU coach, Jack Parker, to give freshman goalie Sean Maguire a good chance for his first win as a Terrier with fellow freshman Matt O'Connor most likely getting the start on Sunday against UNH.  This game is a must win for the Terriers and cannot be overlooked before Sunday's matchup with UNH

Monday Polls posted on a Tuesday- BU stays #11, Grzelcyk wins HE Rookie of the Week

After BU's split with Merrimack and BC over the weekend, they stayed exactly where they were last week in the meaningless polls. They remain #11 in the USCHO poll with their 5-3 record going into another weekend with 2 HE foes on the schedule. BC remains #1  and UNH jumped up to #5 from #9. No one else in the league is ranked because the rest of Hockey East sucks so far this year. Literally every team from 4-9 are more or less even and Maine sucks worse than the rest. Here is my breakdown of the rest of the poll and HE weekly awards.

1. BC(50)- This is right where you want BC. Let them claim their national title in November and get their winning streak out of the way now. They will suck by March. One and done in the NCAAs here they come.
2. Denver- Going to be another tough test for BU when they travel out there in late December
3. Minnesota- Easily have the most talent in the nation, but the results aren't showing that thus far. They'll click eventually. They have a big winning streak in them.
4. Miami
5. UNH- Big test coming into Agganis on  Sunday. BU needs to hold serve and beat them at home. I hate how all 6 games against BC and UNH are in the first semester but then again BU might not lose in the second semester because of that.

Impulsive BU/BC Recap - Cathartic Rant Edition

I heard somewhere that rants are a great stress reliever. Probably from some doctor. Or maybe some blacked-out hobo dispensing free advice in the subway. Whatever. Maybe these rants just get you more infuriated? I don’t know. Fuck it. We’ll see what happens when I hit "publish". If this doesn’t calm me down there’s always Anheuser-Busch (“St. Louis, Missouri!”) here to have my back. With that in mind I’d like to share my thoughts on tonight’s game versus BC. Yes, the Pigeons won tonight. The final score was 4-2. If you read this blog regularly I assume that you already watched the game. And if you watched the game, you know that the final score in no way represents the way this game was played.

NFL Pick 'Em Week 10

Here is the latest NFL Pick 'Em. I went 3-2 last week but I predicted the Jets and Pats were on a bye so I actually went 5-2. So all the usual teams (Pats, NYJ, NYG) are in play this week. Time to aim for perfection.

NYJ vs Seahawks: Seahawks have the best home field advantage in the NFL. That place sells out and goes crazy. Also Seattle has an excellent defense. Jets can't move the ball. Lynch has the most yards after the first hit & Jets give up the one of the most yards after initial contact. Seattle by a 2 TDs.

NYG vs Bengals: Bengals are having a mediocre season/ they just lost 4 in a row ( 1 of those to the Browns). They started off strong so this leads me to believe they are going to give the Giants some troubles. Giants offense has clicked in the last few games. Forsee a close game throughout with Giant victory.

Lions vs Vikings: both teams need this game to stay within reach of GB and Chicago. Tough contest. Lions shouldnt have to worry about passing game that much since Harvin is hurt. 8 men in the box stop AP, pull off the victory.

Bills vs Pats: Bills arent playing where most people predicted them to be. Very average season and just inconsistent. Pats are hitting their form and slowly breaking away from rest of the division. Like the Pats by 2 TDs.

Falcons vs Saints: Saints have been playing better of late and the Falcons are perfectish. Saints win so  I can see Matt Ryan cry that BC lost in the pros., on ice and on the field.

Cowboys vs Eagles: big game. Both teams have a lot of question marks ( funny how they all have question marks now and didnt have any to speak in the offseason and predicted to go 1-2 in the division). Like the Eagles cause this is Vicks last chance and the last chance for his o-line meaning they should step it up big time.

Texans vs Bears: best teams in their respective conferences ( I think Falcons are overrated and the Bears are underrated). Blood bath? No. Intense game with many turnovers? Yes. Both of these teams have ball sharks. Expect a few INTs and fumbles. whichever team puts 28 on the board first wins. Chicago should first. Taking Da Bears.

PS- seriously watch the 1PM games, watch Battle of Comm Ave at 4, watch BU vs BC on NESN. If you dont have NESN go to a bar and ask them to put it on.

BC sucks- The 10 Biggest Reasons BC Sucks

If you wish to reference my post from last year, feel free to do so.

1. Jerry York sucks - I don't care what record he is going for. It shouldn't even count when you don't coach in Hockey East the whole time. The rest of the conferences suck and are way too easy to win in. Christ, I would be going for the record if you put me in the CCHA for a few years too.

2. Boston College isn't in Boston. Also not a College - It is really so ironic. They want to be in Boston, but they're not. They want to be a college, but they're not. Newton University just doesn't have the same ring to it though. One NU is enough I guess.

Weekend Recap 1/2 - You Know Who We Are

Last night the Terriers hoofed it out to North Andover, Mass, for their fourth consecutive road game and their final one before tomorrow's matchup with Newton Community College here at Agganis. Be sure to check out QQ's post previewing that game. Merrimack swept a potentially legit but somewhat inconsistent Northeastern team last weekend and were expected to play with confidence against BU at home.

Plus, they have Finkle on their side. I mean, wouldn't you be pumped for your next game if you could queue up this beauty on your iPod?

INJURIES: NOT FOR US.

Highlights and analysis after the jump.

Hockey East Pick'Em Week 6

To the shock of no one, I had another solid weeknin pick'em as I continue to roll. I am proud to say I am the only person to correctly pick the UMass win over UNH. Your welcome UMass fans. Below are the updated standings and picks for this week. Enjoy. GW is picking like he is Tim Whitehead and therefore is a distant 12.5 GB. Thankfully there are plenty left to be played.

QQ 28-14(.667) Last 7-3
FM 25-17 (.595) Last 5-5
HS  23-16 (.590) Last 5-5
MWW 22-17 (.564)  Last 7-3
Ray 21-18 (.538) Last 5-5
GW 14-25 (.359) Last 3-7

Week 6

Friday 11/9

Maine @ Lowell

QQ- Lowell 4-2- Lowell needs this win badly and Maine just sucks. I won't pick them until they prove they can
FM- Lowell 5-0- Doug Carr is not the goalie a struggling offense wants to face
MWW- Lowell 3-1- Maine still sucks and won't touch a point at all this weekend.
GW - Lowell 3-1- Maine blows.
Ray- Lowell
HS - LOL 4-2. Maine still sucks

PC @ UMass

QQ- UMass 3-2-. Easily the toughest game to call of the week. I'm taking the home team.
FM- UMass 3-2 - UMass team has played BU, BC and UNH tough at home, they will prevail against Providence
MWW-PC 3-2- Providence should play well enough for the away win
GW - 4-2 ZOOOOOOMAAAAAAAAASSSSSS
Ray- PC
HS - PC 3-2. UMass is decent and so far has had a litany of legit opponents of their schedule but PC pulls it out.

***Warning BC-BU picks after the jump. Politically incorrect comments to follow

Merrihack Preview

The #11 BU Terrier hockey team will travel to North Andover this Friday night to take on the 4-3-1(3-1-1)Merrimack Warriors. Merrimack currently sits tied for 2nd in the conference with 7pts in 5 games played. BU sits 4th with 6pts in 4 games played. The two teams battled out all 3 games last season with BU taking 2 of the 3 games, including the last 2. This will be a big test for a young BU team as it would be easy to overlook this game with a certain game on Sunday looming in the near future. We're not blogging about that game until this one is over though and I don't see any reason to overlook Merrimack, who is coming off a sweep of Northeastern and is as hot as they have been all season.

Merrimack has had a good amount of turnover since last season especially at goalie where sophomore Rasmus Tirronen and junior Sam Marrotta have split starts. Marrotta has put up better numbers(3-1-0, .927, 2.26 GAA) to date but Tirronen(1-2-1, .888, 3.23 GAA) has been much better in his last 2 starts. This is most likely due to shaking off some rust after being suspended for most of last season for NCAA regulations.  They are lead offensively by junior Mike Collins who has posted a 5-7-12 line in 8 games thus far and has put the Merrimack offense on his back. Junior d-man Jordan Heywood and sophomore Josh Myers have put up 8 (4-4) and 7 (3-4) points respectively. The offense depends on Collins though. He leads the league in scoring by 3 points over the nearest competitor.  Forward Justin Hussar is their leading freshman scorer with a 1-3-4 line thus far.

North Dakota Recap- To hell and back

I made my first ever trip to Grand Forks, North Dakota this weekend and it looks exactly how you would expect it to. Something like the picture above. The rink itself was huge and really nice. Every North Dakota fan will ask you if you like the rink because they know that it is awesome. The atmosphere was crazy as 12k packed in Saturday night to see the BU 4-2 win while slightly less(due to the opening of hunting season..not a lie) packed in Friday to watch the North Dakota 4-2 win.  First, I'm going to cover some comments on the experience watching a game in the Ralph and then get to the actual games.

The Ralph is quite large, nice and sells beer. All of these things are necessities for North Dakota. If you saw the view of the bar between periods, you would understand what I mean. There is a HIGH demand for beer. The crowd was a sellout Saturday night and it was loud during introductions and when North Dakota scored. Besides, the goals and intros, the arena itself was awfully quiet both nights besides when music was piped in or Alexx Privitera was touching the puck and therefore booed. This goes back to an incident Friday night where it is reported that he had an altercation with fans while in the penalty box. I didn't see anything myself but I'm sure the fan deserved whatever happened because UND fans suck. They did not start any chant on their own. Music had to be piped in or BU fans were loud enough to rile up the fans to start a "Let's go Sioux" chant. This is not to say they don't care about the game because they do and let me know on many occasions what a crazy liberal I am because I am from Boston. They are just too stupid to start any different chants or use their brains at all. Their goal song is pretty cool/funny as these small firecrackers/bombs go off over the goal they just scored on.  Overall, enjoyed my time there and for all the idiotic students, there were just as many welcoming fans who seemed glad to have us there. Now to the hockey.

Week 9 NFL Pick 'Em

Here are my picks and reasons for this weeks games. For any of those people that didn't know the Pats and NYJ are off and won't be making a contribution to the picks this week. As always aim for perfection:

  • Arizona vs Green Bay: GB is getting better by the week. Zona has impressed early on in the season but haven't so much lately. I am going with the hot pick in GB.
  • Carolina vs Washington: Dear Cam, Here is a suggestion for the suggestion box. Be more like RG3 and win the games as a complete QB, ie- play like last year. Skins win a close one.
  • Steelers vs Giants: Assuming the fact this is the CBS game of the week most of the country will see this game. That means the Pat fans who adore Big Ben and ELIte. Just kidding, Pat fans will probably turn off the tv and pray for the NHL to come back. Giants win with Eli late TD.

[Updated] BSRS Bulletin Board - NoDak "They Have Internet Out There?" Edition

[author's note: updated with a couple of extra tidbits on 11/4]

In what I'm sure will never become a running feature here at BSRS, GW and myself were compelled to make a post of classic bulletin board material in order to motivate the boys for tonight's revenge game at Himmler Rink Ralph Englestad Arena. Inspired by the absolutely priceless Twitter battle started by Ben "The Bear Jew" Rosen the other day, we've decided to recap all of the best UND fan chirps directed at BU hockey. For those of you keeping score at home, the three most consistent running themes are intolerance, hypocrisy and general stupidity. Should be fun! Let's get started!

Hockey East Pick 'EM Week 5

Here are the updated ranking through 4 weekends and I still am in the lead. This is surprising to no one but everyone is atleast floating .500 besides GW who is...well just not good.  His steadfast refusal to pick BC is something to be admired by all of us though.  Also, we have to give a big shout out to MWW who made his picks with the limited cell service he has down on Long Island due to Hurricane Sandy. Kid is a trooper.

QQ 21-11 (.656) Last 7-3
FM 20-12  (.625) Last 7-3
HS  18-11 (.621) Last 8-2
Raymundo 16-13 (.552) Last 7-3
MWW 15-14 (.517) Last 6-4
GW 11-18(.380) Last 4-6

Week 5
Friday 11/02

BC @ Maine

QQ- BC 6-1- Maine just sucks so hard. I want to pick them here. They should beat BC at home, especially the way they swept BC up here last year but I just don't see it happening.
FM- BC 7-1-Maine this year is literally the worst HEA squad I've ever seen
HS- BC 4-0 - Train wreck
Raymundo- BC
MWW- BC
GW- Maine 5-1 Maine gets off the schneid and Gaudreaubitch is nowhere to be found.

Merrimack @ NU

QQ- NU 3-2- I think this a close game with both goalies playing well but NU sneaks it out at home.
FM-NU 4-3-This game will help to clarify the middle of the HEA standings
HS- NU 3-1- NU is solid this year
Raymundo-NU
MWW- Merrimack
GW- NU 4-3 - Bryan Mountain *clap clap clapclapclap*

Feliz Miguel's Cawlidge Hawke Power Rankings 10/31

Starting with Hockey East, where the story was the rich getting richer:
1. UNH (4-0-1, LW: 1)--Still undefeated, and Casey DeSmith looks like he'll avoid frozen pizza syndrome and keep pucks out of the net. NU is a good team, but inability to score in first road game of the year is concerning.

2. BU (3-1-0, LW: 2)--Solid tendy work by O'Connor will buy Parker and co. time to get forwards clicking and young blueliners more game-ready. This team will be better by March amd if they take 2 at the Ralph this weekend (I personally would be happy to see even a split) then the rest of HEA and college hockey as a whole should be very scared.

3. BC (4-1-0, LW: 3)--I'm still not sold on Lowell so I'm muting my praise of BC for last weekend; just taking care of business, and not much more.

4. Northeastern (2-2-1, LW: 5)--they can thank Bryan Mountain for this one. Looked good at the Whit, but shutting UNH down totally next day was almost more impressive. Looks like 4th will be best fight in HEA this year.

Weekend Preview: The Boys From North Dakota

The first weekend in November finds the Terriers traveling out to Grand Forks, North Dakota, for two games against UND. The Fighting Sioux whatever they are called now sit at #5 in the nation after two wins and a tie against Alaska-Anchorage and a loss to Alaska.  Your Terriers slid up to #12 in the most recent polls following a weekend sweep of Zoomass.  Let's get into it...

Sandy: F#CK YOU

So I got power back here on Long Island. I got it last night. Still the cell service is horrible because Sandy kicked the cell services ass. T-Mobile (my carrier; normally excellent on LI) and AT&T combined for awhile. So as the national media and the local media cover Breezy Point and New Jersey and of course lower Manhattan, I am going to write a little something about my experiences on Long Island. As of right now I checked LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) has about 600,000+ customers without power (not including small villages with their own power supply).

The storm started to kick up around 1PM Monday. Low tide and technically the first wave of the storm surge hit a little before that. My cousins who live on the water noticed that it was already abnormal at low tide so they left and come above the evacuation zone to us. Wind started to really kick up the afternoon with the first rainstorm. After that continuous wind battered my area. Trees were parallel to the ground at times to sheer force of the wind. Luckily I had power throughout Monday afternoon and night during the peak of the storm. Apparently, my dog loves hurricanes and wanted to go for a run in the middle of the storm. Well, after one yank of the leash with a big boom (transformer exploded) a few blocks away he ran into the house.

Around 5AM ( I didn't sleep) we lost power. My cousins got up soon after the power went out. They decided to head home to scout out their home in the evacuation zone. My parents and I stayed home and scouted our local area. Noticing live wires almost on every block with down trees. Reports from neighbors said Garden City looked like World War II. Trees shattered. The worst was reports coming in by radio from Fire Island and Long Beach. Total carnage. Almost so hard to believe since I spent so much time in the city of Long Beach as a kid on the beach.

On Wednesday, I started cleaning up with my parents. I started at 8AM and finished at 3PM. My cousins started at 8AM and didn't finish until late at night and still haven't finished. After cleaning up, I drove down there to check the damage. I don't have enough words to express what I saw yesterday. The 3 things that stand out: gas/oil smell, boats, and humming of generators and water pumps. I have a few pictures and videos but I decided in respect to my family and friends and fellow Long Islanders not to show any.

As of right now, I can't use the bathroom without wondering if raw sewage comes up through the pipes. I am only block in the area that has power (weird and eerie), gas stations are closed to no power or no fuel, traffic for miles and miles. I could go on.

What I am asking our readers is: keep us in your thoughts and prayers, find a way to help out (if you have the money to do so), and if you know anybody in the NJ, NY, CT please extend a hand so they can stand up on.

PS- I also think 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) should be removed from Bruce Springsteen's set list.
