Odds and Ends

Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen made their professional debuts last night with the Lake Eerie Monsters, the Colorado Avalanche AHL affiliate. Shattenkirk tallied an assist on a 3rd period goal, while Cohen racked up 7 penalty minutes for hooking(2) and fighting(5). Shatty was also one of Lake Eerie's shootout skaters - and scored on his attempt. Former terrier Zach Cohen also got in on the action for the Monsters as he tallied an assist on Lake Eerie's tying goal in the third. Lake Eerie won the game, 5-4, in the shootout...

Former Terrier Brandon Yip has recently returned to the ice for the Colorado Avalanche, after being out for a month with a shoulder injury. He has gone scoreless in his firat 5 games back but has, however, been logging some significant ice time - including over 20 minutes in last night's contest against Edmonton...

On a Bruins note, B's D-man Dennis Seidenberg surgery on his wrist - and as a result will miss the rest of the Bruin's season. Seidenberg was acquired on March 3, and in 17 games with the B's has totaled 2 goals, 7 assists, and a +9 on ice rating...

Red Sox pitcher John Lackey made his Boston debut last night, giving up 3 hits, 2 walks, and no runs over 6 innings. Lackey pitched despite having some "personal issues" weighing on his mind lately. Lackey would not comment on what these issues were, but apparently they were enough for the Sox to suggest Lackey could stay home and skip his start last night. Clearly, Lackey is a great competitor to go out and pitch a great game last night...

On another Red Sox note, DH David Ortiz is off to another slow start. In the first 3 games, Papi has gone a combined 1 for 11 at the plate, with no hits in the first two games. Big Papi's bat speed and adjustment time appear to be way slower than they were in 04-07, perhaps a sign that his time has gone by. One can't help but wonder if his start will be as slow as it was last year, and if so, when we will see Mikey Lowell at DH. Personally, I just think Ortiz needs to go back to see that "eye doctor" (Barry Bonds) to get more "eye drops" (steroids)...

The Masters starts today down at Augusta National, with Tiger teeing off at 1:42 pm with Matt Kuchar and KJ "bodybuilder" Choi. No offense to Tiger, but I'm taking the field...
