Bruins center Marc Savard has been given medical clearance to return to game action according to general manager Peter Chiarell. This means Savard, who has been recovering from a grade 2 concussion suffered on March 7th, will play in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series. A twist in the story is that the series could be against the Penguins, which is the team Savard suffered the hit against. If the Capitals beat the Canadiens in a first-round Game 7 on Wednesday night, Boston will get a second-round date with Pittsburgh. The Bruins punched their ticket to Round 2 with a 4-3 victory over the Sabres in Game 6 on Monday night. This should be quite the series if the Bruins do get the Penguins and scumbag Matt Cooke, who hit Savard with the dirty blindside elbow.
Savard met with independent neurologist Dr. Jeremy Schmahamann late Monday afternoon and was given the final thumbs up. Exactly how Savard will be used is up to coach Claude Julien. Savard has been skating with the team and itching to return to the ice, saying recently the biggest hurdle he has remaining is getting himself into game shape.
