You Smell That? Smells like...the Playoffs!

Is there any doubt this is one of the best times of the year? Baseball is getting going, and the NBA and NHL are starting up their postseasons. Around here, we are lucky enough to have both the Celts and the Bruins in their respective "second seasons". As such, I thought I'd give a little breakdown of each of their first round match-ups.

(6) Bruins v. (3) Buffalo Sabres
-This looks to be a grinder of a series. Both teams feature top goaltenders - the B's Tukka Rask (1.97 gaa, .931 save percentage) and the Sabres Ryan Miller (2.22 gaa, .929 save percentage), as well as top notch penalty kill units. You have to give Miller a slight edge here though, as he played 24 more games than Rask and obviously has the Olympic experience under his belt. While the Sabres are a slightly more high scoring team, the B's hold teams to the second fewest goals in the NHL (200 total goals over 82 games, or 2.43 gpg. Blame Thomas and Dennis Wideman for those raised numbers). While the B's won the season series 3-1 over the Sabres, I don't think this is by any means a locked up series for the Boys in Black and Gold. That being said...

(4) Celtics v. (5) Miami Heat
-The Celtics have baffled me all year. Some games they look great, some games it looks like the Big 3 have a foot already into a retirement home door. I guess that's what will decide how deep the Celtics go into the playoffs - how well the Big 3 can play. Honestly, I'm not that worried about the Heat as a team - we beat them all 3 times during the regular season. Yeah, they got D-Wade who is always explosive come playoff time, but besides him and the occasional scoring spurt from head case Michael Beasley they don't scare me. Let's just hope the Celtics of 07 show up for this playoff run. If that's the case, then look out.
