B's Sturm out for season with torn ACL,MCL

Bruins' forward Marco Sturm tore both his ACL and MCL in the first shift of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers. He will require surgery within 4-6 weeks. His expected recovery time is around six months. Sturm also suffered an injury to his left knee last year and missed the majority of the 2008-2009 season.

This is a tough loss for the B's who lose Sturm the game they got Marc Savard back. Daniel Paille looks to move up to Sturm's spot on the Beregeron, Recchi line while Shawn Thornton would be active for Game 2 after being a healthy scratch for Game 1.

Also, the Patriots have signed Brown University product Buddy Farnham to a contract after his tryout this weekend at the rookie mini-camp. The Patriots are well stocked at receiver, so a player like Farnham faces some long odds to earn a roster spot. His best shot to stick with the club probably will come on the practice squad.

At the same time, Farnham's story figures to resonate locally, as he is from Andover, Mass., and can now say that he had a chance to suit up for his hometown team.

And the Sox just got swept by Baltimore. Lookin' good this year!
