Terriers take 3 out of 4 points from Merrimack

The BU Terriers took three out of four points from #18 Merrimack College. In a matchup between the youngest team in college hockey versus one of the oldest, the youth prevailed with a 1-1 tie Friday night in North Andover before a 4-2 BU win Saturday night back at Agganis Arena. Friday night was a tightly played contest that BU has to be happy to escape with a point. Merrimack Brett Seney put the home team up early in the second with a snipe past Matt O'Connor's glove. BU would tie it up in the third on a gritty Matt Lane goal. The game would end in a tie with a few chances for each side but the game was sloppy due a large number of penalties(everyone paid to come see Cameron Voss make penalty calls apparently). As a BU fan, you have to be happy with a tie on the road at a tough rink like Lawler where you certainly didn't play your best hockey.

The Terriers played their best game since October 31st vs PC on Saturday night and the score showed it with a 4-2 win to move into a tie for first in Hockey East with UMass Lowell with 14 points a piece(Lowell has a game in hand). BU got off to a good start as Danny O'Regan scored his first of 3 goals on  great passes from linemates Ahti Oksanen and Jack Eichel.  O'Regan would pot another one off a deflection of a John Macleod shot very early in the second period to make it a 2-0 game. Brandon Hickey would add his first collegiate goal to make it 3-0. The final would be 4-2 as Eichel would set up O'Regan again for the 4th BU goal on a great no look pass.

Coach Quinn was pleased with the effort as he should be. The team was clicking on all cylinders Saturday night and now has only one game left before the semester break at RPI next Saturday. There was some interesting comments from Merrimack coach Mark Dennehy after the game where he said he didn't even talk about BU's top line of Oksanen-Eichel-O'Regan this week as he just focused on his team. Coach Eichel had 4 assists on you in one game. You should probably at least point out that he is capable of that. Just a thought.
