The BU Terriers continue to dominate and humiliate their competition as they beat Merrimack College 6-2 and 5-0 in a controlled scrimmage that some people called a "Hockey East Quartefinal". The Terriers outshot Merrimack 101-46 over the course of two games and outscored them 11-2. Friday night, the Terriers were paced by two goals from Jack Eichel who scored his 20th of the year as did Danny O'Regan who made a great move in on the rush off a great pass from Evan Rodrigues. The best way to describe the Terriers effort this weekend was dominant. If this team plays with the same mentality for 60 minutes throughout the postseason, they will not lose a game.
The Terriers return to action in another controlled scrimmage Friday night against UNH. The Wildcats survived a three game series with Providence College in Providence winning Game 3 in OT. They have been hot as of late which you will hear from every writer ever leading up to the game. They have won 9 of their last 10 but 6 of those wins came against Merrimack and UConn so they basically shouldn't count. The only way UNH can even stay with BU is if they get absurdly good goaltending and some puck luck like they did back in Durham in February when they squeaked out a 4-3 win.
With the wins this weekend, BU is virtually a lock to stay East for their NCAA tournament regional as they are the only top 8 seed from the east. This will be the Terriers first NCAA tournament appearance since 2012. The eastern regionals are in Manchester and Providence this year so BU will be in one of those depending on the outcomes of the other conference tournaments this weekend. BC and Providence are the other HE schools likely to make the NCAA tournament but both have been eliminated from the Hockey East tournament because they choke in big games. Classic catholic schools.
