National Championship Preview: Bring on Providence

The BU Terriers continued to roll along through their schedule barely breaking a sweat against the North Dakota redacted nicknames. The Terriers rolled to a 4-1 lead after two and only let North Dakota back in momentarily to give them a glimmer of hope. Jack Eichel scored the first and last goal for the Terriers as Brandon Hickey, AJ Greer and Doyle Somerby all scored goals of their own to lead the Terriers to victory. Much of the talk after the game was a high stick by Evan Rodrigues on North Dakota captain Stephane Pattyn. The high stick came after Pattyn took two quick cheapshot jabs to Ahti Oksanen's face and left North Dakota fans a reason to whine and make excuse for their inability to win National Championships. The fact of the matter is Rodrigues barely touched him and Pattyn deserved it after taking cheap shots after the whistle all game .

The Terriers will now face the Providence College Creepy Friars who beat Nebraska Omaha in their national semifinal yesterday. The Friars and Terriers have already played twice this season with the away team winning each matchup. It has been a longtime since October though and the Friars have proved themselves worth of being a top 2 team in the country by beating three members of NCHC EZHC conference  to get to the final. The Friars are lead by junior goalie Jon Gillies who is back to back All American but has struggled in his career against BU. He is 2-4-1 in his career against BU. BU will want one more win to send Gillies out before he inevitably turns pro after this season. BU dominated the game at Providence this season including a great Eichel shorthanded goal by the new annointed Hobey Baker Award winner. Providence stole the game at Agganis Arena as Gillies stood on his head and made 37 saves to preserve the 2-1 victory for the Friars. They have no chance at holding BU to only one goal tomorrow so they better find a way to score on BU which they struggled to do in both games this season.

The Terriers have found different ways to win games throughout this season whether it be a double OT win in the Beanpot semifinal where they dominated the game but couldn't finish to last night where they had McIntyre so rattled that he was just waving pucks into his own net. As a BU fan you have to feel confident that they will find another way to win tomorrow and bring home the 6th national championship to the good end of Comm Ave. Tomorrow night's game will be BU's 6th game of the year in TD Garden. They are 5-0 in the first five at the Garden including two OT wins and two almost competitive games in the Hockey East tournament. That is a tournament in which PC didn't get out of the Quarterfinals. PC has struggles finishing at times and the BU defense and OC can make their lives a nightmare tomorrow night. This is where both teams seasons end but it's going to be great to watch because PC is going to lose.
