Please tell me that was just a bad dream. Newton College didn't really win a National Championship right? Wisconsin didn't fold like a cheap suit right? Please tell me I didn't see that fuck John Muse celebrating his second national title...
Ahhh shit. That all happened. On goals from Ben Smith, Cam Atkinson (2), Chris Kreider, and Matt Price, as well as 3 assists from Joe Whitney, BC beat Wisconsin last night to win their 2nd national title in 3 years. The victory marked their 4th National Title all time, and the 3rd this decade (still 1 less than BU all time, just pointing out). BC got started with Ben Smith's powerplay goal in the first period, and added 4 goals (including 2 from Cam Atkinson and an empty netter from Matt Price) in the 3rd period to shut the door on the Badgers.
For anybody expecting this to be a close game, it was anything but. BC was just too fast and John Muse played great in net to give BC another blow out victory. Personally, I was disappointed with all of these blowouts in the tournament, especially the frozen four. I mean, Wisconsin beats RIT 8-1 and BC beats Miami (OH) 7-1...what kind of tournament is this? I think the NCAA needs to revisit their selection process and maybe consider adding more teams to the tournament. It would 1.) Make the road to the Frozen Four tougher, perhaps weeding out teams like RIT while also making it tougher on the top seeds and 2.) Increase interest/revenue for NCAA hockey (hockey fans are diehard - they will travel with their team and fill the stands. Unless it's BC, they only show up for the games where their team might win something. Amateurs.). Maybe I'm dead wrong, I just think adding more teams is a solid move for the NCAA.
Regardless, thus ends the 09-10 hockey season. If you are a BU fan, it was a disappointing year. But the season starts anew right now. We have some top recruits coming in, our underclassmen are battle tested, and our upperclassmen have to be hungry after last years disappointing season. It should be a good one. Can't wait for October. See you in 108 .
