Pats sign DT Lewis
In a move that could impact how the Patriots approach the draft on April 22nd-24th, former Panther DT Damione Lewis agreed to a deal with the team. Lewis was released by the Panthers days before the free agency period began. The 6'2" 301 pound defensive tackle looks to be part of the solution to sure up the Pats' front seven, which was gashed in the playoff loss to Baltimore last year. Lewis is a ten year veteran out of Miami(FL), the same school as Patriots star DT Vince Wilfork. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the deal will be worth close to the amount of the $755,000 that Lewis was scheduled to earn with Carolina this year. The deal was most likely altered to give Lewis more incentives and less base salary for this season. The deal is expected to be announced early next week and clearly gives the team more flexibility upcoming draft.
