According to the Colorado Avalanche website, juniors Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen have both signed entry level contracts with the Avs and will report to their AHL affiliate, the Lake Eerie Monsters (where they join another former Terrier, Zach Cohen). As Coach Parker predicted earlier this week, Shattenkirk was gone within a couple days and Cohen followed. Personally I am not surprised about Shatty leaving, but quite a bit more surprised that Cohen followed. Hope the Avs enjoy shotty defense and a hurt hip from ColbyCo to go with that slapshot.
For the BU icemen, this presents some problems. First, 6 of our best players from this years barely better than .500 team are gone, and they take with them a lot of offense (as much as CCohen annoys me, kid can rip a slapshot). Second, on next years squad we currently only have 6 D-men signed up (including 2010 recruit Adam Clendening). One of those 6 is Ryan Ruikka, who is entering his junior year and has yet to see a second of ice time due to injury. Obviously, Coach Parker wants to add another defenseman before the fall, potentially bumping up a 2011 recruit or adding a recruit who is yet unsigned. Regardless, it should be interesting to see how this one plays out.
