Coughlin Commits to BU

via Caught in Southie

Former Catholic Memorial standout and current Vernon Viper Liam Coughlin has committed to BU, according to multiple reports. Coughlin was previously committed to UMass.

Liam, a native of South Boston, led CM in scoring his senior year with a 27-24-51 line in only 21 games played. The left shot forward landed on ESPN Boston's All-State Team and was one of four finalists for Massachusetts' Mr. Hockey award, in addition to being named Division 1 Player of the Year.

Coughlin decided to play a year of juniors before beginning college and signed with the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL for the 2013-14 season, following in the footsteps of fellow CM grads Garrett Noonan and Mike Collins. Through 68 games this season, Coughlin has a 24-32-56 scoring line, good for fourth on the team. He also ranks fourth in the league among rookie scoring. Liam was named Vernon's player of the month in January, tallying 11 points over the month.

The CM grad verbally committed to UMass back in early October, but allegedly de-committed three weeks ago. USHR reports that North Dakota, Western Michigan and Michigan State were also in on Coughlin, presumably among others.

Coughlin adds size (he's 6'3, 200 lbs), skill and scoring touch to BU's massive 2014 recruiting class. We've been high on him since his CM days, and we were psyched to hear about his commitment. It's always nice to see a hometown kid realize his dreams.
