BU forwards Sam Kurker and Brendan Collier added by USHL teams

Despite the team being off until next weekend, there have been some news regarding BU hockey recently. Two weeks ago, sophomore Terrier forward Sam Kurker was added to the roster by the Indiana Ice of the USHL and yesterday, teammate Brendan Collier was added by the Youngstown Phantoms also of the USHL. This does not mean either player is leaving BU. These moves are typically made by USHL teams if they hear rumors that players are thinking of leaving their schools to transfer. They could hear these rumors from family members or advisors of the family. These moves could also mean nothing. Without inside information, it is difficult to guess exactly what prompted these USHL teams to add these players. It should be noted that Indiana dropped its 4th goalie to add Kurker to their roster so it wasn't exactly a high value roster spot.

I personally don't believe that either player will transfer during the middle of the season if at all. Both players were regarded as solid recruits(both are drafted) and are talented enough to succeed at this level as well as on this team. I hope both players return as there is a serious lack of depth up front for the Terriers and they need every body possible available for the second half of the season for the big time winning streak they are about to go on.

Matt O'Connor, Soph, G - Pretty much a no brainer here. OC has been one of the  bright spots in the first half, putting the team on his back more nights than not. Playing in 13 of 17 games (12 starts), Matt posted a 6-4-2 record with a 2.61 goals against average and .929 save percentage. He faced 467 shots and made 434 saves, good for 3rd and T-2nd in Hockey East, although he played over 100 fewer minutes than the two players ahead of/tied with him (Gillies and Mastalerz). The sophomore made over 35 saves 7 times, including 37 and 55 against North Dakota (win/tie) and 37 in an epic 3-2 win over Cornell at Red Hot Hockey.

Robbie Baillargeon, Fr, F - While Nick Roberto and Doyle Somerby put up a good fight, Robbie takes this one by the length of a carrot. Bugs Bunny Baillargeon leads the team with a 5-8-13 line in 17 gp, and also has a team best plus/minus of +6. He's had 3 multi-point games, and in each of those games he registered an assist on the game winning goal. Robbie has the 2nd most face off wins (81) and the 2nd best face off percentage on the team (.482), trailing Danny O'Regan in both categories.

BSRS Weekly Awards 12/17

We aren't sure how much blogging we will be doing until the Terriers next game 1/4 @ Harvard. We will do our best to cover Terriers Danny O'Regan and Matt Grzelcyk's time with the USA WJC team as they head over to Sweden for the annual World Junior Championships

Greg Jennings Award- given to the Terrier who best exemplifies the qualities of Greg Jennings through doin' shit and putting the team on his back. (YOU CAN'T STOP HIM)




Winner- Matt O'Connor- OC made some huge saves in the third to keep the Terriers in the game as his defenseman took some chances to make up the deficit in the third.

Joe Pereira Trophy- Given to the Terrier who, through grit, hard work, and determination helps the team to victory on and off the scoresheet. Just like Joey did. (Interview can be read here)

Winner- Evan Rodrigues, F- ERod was one of the few guys who I thought had a good night on Saturday. At times, he was dominant out on the ice skating through 2 or 3 guys from Bentley. Brendan Collier also had a good night for the Terriers and started some good rushes with some solid battles that he won along the boards.

Bentley Preview

The BU Terriers take on the Bentley Falcons this Saturday in a non-conference game to conclude the first half of the season. This will be the first matchup ever between the two teams. The teams enter the game with almost identical records which has the "media" drooling over Bentley's chances to win the game this weekend. BU enters with a 7-7-2 record and hoping to build off their 3-1-2 run in their last 6 games to improve above .500 for the first half. Bentley is 5-0-1 in their last 6 which has media members thinking Bentley could win this game. Bentley's last 6 games were against Robert Morris,Air Force, Holy Cross, and UConn while BU's last 6 were against UConn, North Dakota, Cornell and Merrimack.

Bentley is lead in points by junior Alex Grieve and Steve Weinstein who each have contributed 20 points while  sophomore Andrew Gladiuk who has 16 points in 15 games thus far this year. BU will certainly need to keep these three in check which they can do by playing their game and taking control of the game as they against UConn(their last Atlantic Hockey Opponent). BU has the advantage defensively and in net along with the better special teams of the two teams. I have no doubt that the Terriers know how important this game is to their season and will not take every media member's new favorite team lightly.
