Sox Sunday/Monday: 1 Week In The Books

Well, to say the least it's been up and down ride for Fenway's Finest this week. Some points about how things transpired on the way to a .500 record:

1. I'm excited to see Wake pitching the way he has this year so far. Granted it's only one start, but for a 43-year-old knuckler to get six K's against 2 hits sounds like the makings of a great #5 in my book. Hopefully he can build on his All-Star season last year and be solid at the back end or in the pen as things go on and Dice-K/Buchholz progress. Though honestly Buchholz looked a helluva lot better than Lester or Beckett this week.

2. Bullpen? Hello? Anyone there? Bard may have a 1.80 ERA, but the goose egg in 2 save situations scares me when looking at the guy who becomes The Man when and if Papelbon walks. Although Pap's 2-2 in save situations his 5.40 ERA is somewhat of a concern. At least John B. Lackey's living up to his billing!

3. Offensively we seem OK. Papi's taking a while to warm up, but hey, at least Varitek's got a couple dingers. If DP and Youk keep up their early season form we should be in great shape.

All in all, I'm not too too worried yet. Yanks are always a tough series and we bounced back after the tough first loss to KC. Hopefully Lester gets his stuff together against Pavano and the Twinkerbelles tonight!
