Weekend Recap/Beanpot Preview- Bringing home #30

BU tied the UMass Minutmen Friday night in Amherst 3-3. It was a tough tie to take after the Terriers went up 3-1 early in the third period on a Mike Moran goal. They also received goals from junior forward Cason Homann and sophomore defenseman Ahti Oksanen in the first two periods. The Terriers appeared to go up 4-1 on a Evan Rodrigues goal that was called no goal by the officials for no apparent reason. It was reviewed and called no goal which Coach Quinn would say later that no explanation was given as to why. The Minutemen made it a one goal game as a result of a missed slashing call on defenseman Ahti Oksanen which lead directly to the goal. UMass would tie the game in the last minute on a deflection goal. While the Terriers got outshot again, they got spectacular goaltending from Matt O'Connor who made 46 saves in the contest. The Mullins center is always a tough environment to win in and I thought the team played fairly well throughout the contest. They put themselves in a situation to win the game and then got some bad breaks. They need to build off this performance to have a strong showing tonight against BC in the Beanpot.

Tonight the Terriers will face archrival BC in the first round of the Beanpot. The Terriers and Eagles have gone to overtime in the last two Beanpot matchups(First round in 2011 and the 2012 Championship). BU comes in 1-1-1 in their last 3 while BC is as a hot as ever after their 2-0 win over PC Friday night. You can throw out the records and the play as of late though. BU beat a top 10 BC team in 1999(see below) after being winless in their last 7 games. The records DO NOT matter. The Terriers will be fired up .The pigeons will be fired up. It will come down to who executes best under the pressure.

The key for the Terriers is to get scoring from the top two lines (Rodrigues-Baillargeon-O'Regan, Lane-Hohmann-Roberto) going and scoring as quick as possible. The first goal is huge for this young BU team to get off on a positive start. BU scored first in the team's last meeting a few weeks ago after playing a smart but physical first period against the Eagles. The top line from BC has put up silly numbers this season so I would  expect Noonan to be matched up with them throughout the game. Coach Quinn is going to do his best to force the other three lines to beat him. You can read better previews literally anywhere else on the internet today so I'm just going to shutup now and go back to watching the 99 highlights until tonight. BU vs BC in the Beanpot.  Let's fucking go!
