Terriers Travel to Orono, Play Two Against Maine

This stretch of games for the Terriers just hasn't been easy. The Terriers last 3 games have all come against nationally ranked teams - Merrimack, BC and UNH - and now they have 2 against another nationally ranked team, #11/12 Maine. This is easily one of the tougher stretches BU has had all year, and more than 2 points out of this weekend would go a long way to helping keep this team in the race for home ice.

The last time we saw the Black Bears of Maine was wayyyy back in November, a contest at Agganis that played out to a 2-2 tie. Since then, the Black Bears have been all over the place: Getting swept by BC (and then rebounding to take one against them), tying PC, getting stomped 7-1 by Merrimack, and just last weekend tying Northeastern 3-3. There is no doubt they can play, it just really depends on which Maine team shows up on a given night. Some nights they play as well as UNH and BC, some nights they have to get lucky to tie Northeastern or PC. Something tells me they will be ready to play this weekend, but not on both nights. If the Terriers can weather the Black Bear storm on Friday or Saturday (whichever day they decide to show up), then this is a weekend where we could conceivably take 3 or 4 points. However, if we don't show up on one or both nights, this could be a 0 or 1 point weekend. It really all depends on which Terrier and Maine squads we see.

Currently, Maine sits 1 point behind us in Hockey East with 2 games in hand. If we can go up to Orono and earn a sweep, that would go a long long way to separate us from the pack of teams currently sitting in 4-8. This is shaping up to be a season where home ice could very well be decided on the last weekend, so the Terriers need all the points they can get coming down the home stretch.

Unfortunately, neither game is on TV this weekend (NESN wants to show UMass-Northeastern and Merrimack-UVM instead? Let me know how those ratings are). Luckily for us BU fans, the Boston Hockey Blog will be doing their usual live blogging of both games. And if you are around Boston and starved for some hockey, then join (potentially) some of the BSRS guys at Walter Brown tonight as our Lady Terriers take on UConn in conference play. The women are currently ranked #3 in the country, and are definitely in the National Championship talk - so come see a game!

No matter what you end up doing tonight, just remember as always - GO TERRIERS!
