Hockey East Weekend recap

So you can Hatrick Swayze's recap below for a more detailed analysis of the BU 4-2 win over PC last night.  I am going to recap the weekend in Hockey East as there were 3 conference games and the rest of the conference went 4-1 in out of conference games.

UNH sweeps St. Cloud State- UNH got off to a good start to the year taking 2 at home from a decent St. Cloud State team. The good start is a welcome site after last year in which UNH got to a 0-4-0 start and never really recovered from it. BU travels up to the Whitt for a tough road test next Saturday, which should be a great hockey game.

Vermont ties Lowell- This was the upset of the week as Lowell, who was picked by many to finish in the top 2 in the conference, tied Vermont at home.  Vermont has been picked by everyone to finish last in the conference. They proved some fight and took advantage of a less than stellar performance by Lowell.

UMass welcomes UConn to Hockey East- UMass beat UConn handily 4-1 on Friday night in front of a packed Mullins Center. The win was Coach Michelletto's first career win as a head coach.  Good win for the Zoo and shows UConn has some development to do as a program before they are ready for Hockey East.

Northeastern beats BC- Northeastern knocked off the current #1 ranked team in the country. The win is awesome because BC lost and won't be #1 anymore. It should be Minnesota who thumped Michigan St this past weekend. It sucks because Northeastern might actually start believing in themselves or some shit like that. I still hate you Vinny but good job beating BC.

Maine takes 3rd in the IceBreaker- Maine took third place in the 4-team Ice Breaker in Kansas City. The attendance was about 4 people judging by what I saw on TV. Maine lost on Friday to Notre Dame but rebounded to get their first win of the year last night against Army. More surprisingly, Joey Diamond didn't get a game misconduct in either game.

PC beats Sacred Heart- PC came into last night's game with BU fresh off a big 8-2 win over Sacred Heart. Freshman Mark Jankowski put 2 in the net before he was neutralized for most of last night.

BU beats PC- The more detailed recap is below but overall, it was a solid win for BU who saw 6 of their 9 freshmen make their collegiate debuts. Freshman goalie Matt O'Connor got his first career win only allowing 2 goals against a solid PC squad. BU's lines seemed to work well together. The top line of Nieto-Gill-Cisse is scary good. Cue up the victory music!
