Sahir Gill leaves BU

This afternoon, Sahir Gill made a surprise announcement that he would not be returning to BU for his senior season.  This comes as a shock to us as Gill was expected to be an impactful forward and a veteran leader for the club. The reasoning as to why he has left the team remains unknown. No matter what the reason, his presence will be missed on and off the ice this coming season. We wish Sahir the best of luck in the future and thank him again for taking the time to sit down for an interview with us in December 2011.

There are rumors that Gill will sign a professional deal in the coming days but the real reason behind his departure is not know and hopefully will remain that way to the public. I agree with twitter account @BurntBoats( on this one that this type of stuff should be kept in house and out of the public spotlight. That is the sign of a strong program and loyal staff when they can keep these things between the people directly involved.

This departure leaves BU with only 12 forwards for the upcoming season so I would expect the freshman class to grow by 1-3 forwards from what has been made public as of now. It will be interesting what first year coach David Quinn and his staff can do recruiting-wise in such a short amount of time. They are hopefully already all over this and have their guys lined up once they get through the admissions process. It will certainly be an interesting next 3 weeks for BU hockey as the freshman class is announced.

  1. Gill's votes for captain should be given to Moccia!

  2. Someone has a little crush on Moccia I think...

  3. Disagree about prefering the reason not be known. As a long-time paying season ticket holder and someone who contributes money to the hockey program, I would like to know why Gill and for that matter Privitera left.

  4. I can understand why you would feel that way but I think it's better for the team and recruiting that it stays off twitter and out of the news stories.

  5. If it was for family reasons that should be stated. He is a public person and if it was for personal reason it should be stated otherwise we are to think he is just another selfish hockey play we have come to know of all to well as BU hockey fans. Leaving so early put the team in great jeopardy for the upcoming season. This is from an almost 50 year BU hockey fan.

  6. Judging from the fact that he hasn't even signed a professional contract yet, I don't think he just wanted to go pro but i can understand your point of view on the matter. You certainly have your right to complain after that long as a fan.

  7. Gill made the decision to leave; Privitera was not given the opportunity to return. The staff won't comment on the specific reasons--and rightly so. No specifics were made public when Vinny got his pink slip. It's up to the players if they wish comment.
