BU's Courtnall signs with Bruins

Reports are coming out this afternoon that BU forward Justin Courtnall has signed an entry level deal with the Bruins. This comes only a week before classes begin and no time for that roster spot to be filled by any scholarship player. I would expect a walk-on to be added for depth but it is going to be tough to get a kid enrolled in school in less than a week. We will update this post as more information comes out. It was first reported by Scott McLaughlin of CHN.


We wish Justin the best of luck as he wore an A for the Terriers last season and single handely turned around game 3 of the HE QF against UNH with his physical play. He will certainly be a physical force at the next level and will be fun to watch in Providence(AHL) this coming season along with former Terriers Colby Cohen and Dave Warsofsky. The timing on it sucks but the team has enough forward depth to overcome this and will allow more ice time for some younger players to grow and develop. Courtnall posted 13 points(7g, 6 a) in his BU career to go along with 104 penalty minutes in 3 seasons.

Sources: Bruins, Marchand agree to two year deal

Bruins playoff hero and partying legend Brad Marchand has agreed to a two year, 5 million dollar deal with the club, according to sources. Marchand was a restricted free agent but had been at captain's practices with the club while negotiating as a restricted free agent. The deal pays the 23 year old Marchand 2 million this year and 3 million next which is quite a jump considering he just finished a three year 1.77 million dollar deal that he signed after he was drafted in 2007. Marchand, had 19 points in 25 playoff games to cap off a very solid rookie season and is now a legend in Boston with the pictures of him partying after the team won the Stanley Cup in June.

Too late now Luongo

So I am doing my daily scroll through ESPN Boston and I come across a story that reads "Luongo regrets critical comments of Thomas". Such a fucking typical Canadian move. Oh I lost after I was a pompous asshole and now I regret those comments. Well no shit you do but you lost the finals over two months ago killer. Let it go and move hunting moose or drinking maple syrup or burning cars which seems to be a pretty big past time up there in vancouver. Do me a favor and stop bringing the attention back to you. You are a choke artist and a scumbag. Timmy Thomas took a giant dump on your chest. Accept it and move on

You little swedish pussy

So Vancouver F Danielle Sedin came out and promised a victory in this statement after Game 6:

"We lose as a team and win as a team and we're going to win Game 7"

If you are going to make this type of promise you betterMan up and stand behind your words you coward.Instead the Swedish school said this today to the media. It can be interpreted as he is now scared shitless that the B's are going to come out flying and kick his fairy ass back to Sweden.

"You know, that was probably me being excited and the words came wrong out of my mouth. What I said was if we put our best game on the ice, I like our chances. That's the way it's been all year," Sedin said. "When we play our best, we're a tough team to beat. We show that at home. We like our chances."

Canucks just keep whining

Let me start this post with saying that is awful and bad for the game when anyone gets hurt whether they are on your team or not. I can't stop from commenting on Vancouver GM Mike Gillis' comments today about the injury to Vancouver F Mason Raymond during Game 6 Monday night. Gillis said Bruins' d-man Johnny Boychuk "used a can opener and drove [Mason Raymond] with enough force into the boards to break his back." Now let's break down what this clown is saying. He is saying ,Boychuk, on a play where he wasn't penalized meant to injure Raymond and break his back. First, have you ever heard Johnny Boychuk talk? He probably doesn't even know what vertabrae are. Second, the play is clearly clean as Boychuk is riding Raymond toward the boards before Raymond turns around to play the puck where Boychuck shoves him off him as is done 100 times a game. There is zero chance anyone could think Boychuk meant to injure with this play. He could have not hit him as hard I am sure but it wasn't even a hit. It was a shove to play the puck not the man. Boychuk doesn't even push off with his skates after engaging Raymond.

Nevermind the fact that the definition of a can-opener isn't what happened here especially since that would be a deliberate move by Boychuk. Here is the wikipedia definition of a can opener "The can opener (in Judo referred to as kubi-hishigi) is a hyperflexing neck crank that can be applied from the opponent's guard or from a mounted position, by grabbing the opponent's head using the hands, and forcing it towards the chest of the opponent. In competitions (where allowed) it is usually used as a taunting or distracting move, but if applied effectively in a competition, it may force the opponent to submit." That proves my point even further that this GM is a fucking biased idiot. Just say it was a tough break and move on without pointing figures you fraud.

Look at the video below. I understand it was an awful break for Raymond and Vancouver but you can't have fans coming out and claming Rome's hit was clean on Horton when it was clearly late and to the head while he left the ice, then come back out and say Boychuk's hit was dirty. It is really unfortunate and we all wish the best for Raymond but Vancouver is just making a fool of themselves now. Let's bury these asshole Canadians tomorrow night. Win it for America.

Bruins make Luongo eat his words...send the Cup finals to 7

The Bruins bounced back from another one goal defeat in Vancouver on Friday night in Game 5 to once again to dominate on home ice. The black and gold jumped out to a 4-0 first period and never looked back on their way to a 5-2 victory in Game 6 tonight. The Bruins chased Vancouver starting goalie Roberto Luongo in the first period and made him eat his words between games where he took shots at Bruins goalie Tim Thomas for not playing the "normal" style for a goalie. Luongo is a punk-ass bitch from Canada who only plays well at home and when the team around him does. He cannot steal a game for this team and the Bruins need to have that confidence going back to Vancouver on Wednesday in the decisive Game 7. Let's go B's.

Bruins run train in Game 4, chase Luongo

The Bruins have tied up the Stanley Cup Finals(2-2) with another brilliant effort at home in Game 4 of the seven game series. The Bruins lead by one at the end of one on a Rich Peverley goal. "Pevs" got moved up to the top line in the void left by Nathan Horton's concussion in game 3 on a blatant late hit by Vancouver D Aaron Rome. Horton has been ruled out for the remainder of the series as has Rome due to his four game suspension by the NHL. The Bruins piled it on in the second with goals by Michael Ryder and Brad Marchand to make it 3-0 before the final period. Pevs scored another one off a pass from Milan Lucic and chased Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo from the game. BC fuck Cory Schneider replaced him and I am sure will get calls to start Game 5 even though Luongo is Vancouver's best and only shot to win this series. The series now heads back to Vancouver for Game 5 where the Bruins look to carry this momentum and move one win away from their first Stanley Cup since 1972. Go B's! Fuck Canada.

Bruins stomp on Canucks' throat after cheap hit

The Stanley Cup Finals were assumed by most to be a less hostile environment since the two teams had only met once during the regular season. This series has gone in the complete opposite direction from that. Alex Burrow of the Canucks bit B's center Patrice Beregeron in Game 1(1-0 Vancouver win). He was then not suspended by the NHL because there was no "conclusive" evidence even though it is clear on camera what happened. The series continued to escalate in Game 2 when the Vancouver media and Vancouver forward Maxim LaPierre mocked Beregeron. We all know if Lucic took a chomp out of one of their guys, an investigation would be opened by the Vancouver police because that is what happens in Canada. They sit on their asses, eat bacon and make up their own rules for the NHL playoffs. Of course, Burrows scored two goals including the game-winner in OT to give the Canucks a 2-0 series lead heading back to Boston Monday.

Game 3 is what the Canucks had coming to them. The game started with late, blind side hit on Bruins forward Nathan Horton by Vancouver defenseman Aaron Rome. Horton suffered a concussion and left the ice on a stretcher. Rome was given a five minute intereference penalty and a game misconduct. The game was chippy from then on out with both Mark Recchi and Milan Lucic taunting Burrows and LaPierre throughout the game. The Bruins then embarrassed Vancouver winning 8-1 with all eight goals coming goalie Roberto Luongo. That can't be good for confidence heading into Game 4. Horton will now be out for the remainder of the series so both Tyler Seguin and Shawn Thorton will dress for the Bruins. This put's the B's back in the series and makes Game 4 a very very important game. You gotta tie it up and send it back to that fucking city of Vancouver. Maybe that fat fuck will actually sing the whole anthem for once in Game 5. He is no Rene Rancourt that is for sure. Go B's!

Bruins update

Ok so we have been slacking bit time here lately. Partly because of computer issues on my part and because GW working two jobs to support the blog or himself. The real answer is irrelevant. It has been over three weeks since the last post which is just unacceptable with the Bruins playoffs going full throttle. Felizmiguel and Tiger graduated so I guess they can pretend to be busy looking to start a real life. We now enter the eve of game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals and looking back at the playoff season so far it has been quite a ride. Boston beat Montreal in a thrilling seven games clawing out of an 0-2 hole in the series. They then quickly disposed of Philly and their smelly fans 4-0 sweeping their asses back to Micky's gym from Rocky where they belong.

Now this series has been up and down since the start. The B's lost game 1 looking overmatched throughout the game and the powerplay still look horrific as it has all playoffs. They took game 2 in the game that quickly became the Tyler Seguin show. The 19 year old kid has a 4 point second period(2g,2a) on the way to a 6-5 Boston win. The series moved to Tampa for game 3 where the Bruins won the game and took control of the series. They then took a quick 3-0 lead on Tampa in game 4 after one and appeared to have them by the throat. The Lightening squirmed out like St. Louis has been all series and eventually won the game 5-3. The B's took game 5 back at home with a solid 3-1 victory lead by goals by Brad Marchond to put the B's ahead for good at the end of the second period. The series turned back to Tampa for another high scoring battle last night with a 5-4 victory by Tampa.

They then resorted to the ultimate form of class and threw all of their plastic clappers at the Bruins as they left the ice and were offended when Nathan Horton squirted a few of them with a water bottle. Oh no not water! They can throw shit off Krejci's dome but if they shot with some water it is a hate crime. Tampa was a tough team to hate until that moment. Now it's on just in time for Game 7 tomorrow night.

The series seems ready to come down to a dramatic finish which hopefully will end in the Bruins favor to set up a Stanley Cup final series with the Vancouver Canucks who have the whole country of Canada behind them and are the favorites to beat whoever comes out of the East.

Bruins,Celtics heading in different directions

We are some lucky fans to have two current Boston professional teams in their conference semifinals respectively. These two teams have gotten to their current spot in two totally different fashions. Let's start with the Celtics first.

The Celtics' drive for 18 began in October with a win over the newly designed Miami Heat. The team has been through a roller coaster ride since. The team pulled off a huge and scrutinized deal at the trading deadline dealing Nate Robinson, and team cornerstone Kendrick Perkins for Jeff Green and Nenad Kristic. Both of these newcomers have been solid contributors off the bench but all the fans and experts still claim without Perkins the Celts would be facing an early playoff exit.

The Celtics proved them wrong in round one against the new look New York Knicks. The Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups in a midseason trade that brought all of their fans out of the woodwork. The Celtics quickly crushed New York's spirit with a pair of buzzer-beater wins while Billups went down with a leg injury. The Celtics continued to roll sweeping the Knicks out of the first round in four games. This set up the matchup everyone was waiting for..Heat vs. Celtics.

This series has been hyped since last July when LeChoke James and Chris "looks like a Dinosaur" Bosh signed with the Heat and Dwayne Wade with their "Dream team". They had a rock concert to announce the signings and have had a target on their back from the rest of America ever since. The Celtics' older team is looking to stay together for two to three years more and win a few more rings. The series has not gotten off to the start Boston was looking for as they are in a quick 2-0 hole after a pair of 99-90 and 102-91 losses. The haters are out in full force as they are saying this series belongs to the Heat and the Celtics are done. This is far from the truth as the Celtics lost two on the road which is what is supposed to happen. The pressure is on as they now need to hold serve at home but history tells us they will find a way to do so. Ray Allen, Rondo,and Pierce all have injuries to fight through. History is on the Celtics side though and I believe they will win.

Our Boston Bruins couldn't be any more different from the basketball team they share a building with. They began their first round series against hated rival the Montreal "Diving" Canadians. They quickly lost their first two games at home and seemed dead and gone. They then won 3 straight to take a 3-2 series lead showing grit and determination that lead to a regulation,OT and double OT victory. They then lost game 6 on a bunch of horseshit calls and diving before winning an OT thriller in game 7 to win a series no one thought they could win after the first two games. They have carried this momentum into their next series as they have quickly won 2 road games to grab control of the series against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Contrary to the Celtics, history is not on the Bruins' side.It was just last May that they blew a 3-0 series lead against these same Flyers in the same round. The Bruins should have all the confidence in the world right now but there are doubters everywhere reminding them of last year. I am not saying they won't win this series because they will. This team is the most determined team in the playoffs since those first two games and losses to Montreal. Our two Boston sports teams couldn't be any different trend-wise right now but the great thing about sports is that this could change in one game or one period/quarter. They couldn't have a different history either with the Celtics winning 6 NBA titles since the Bruins last won the Stanley Cup in 71-72. The Bruins have five titles in history compared to the Celtics' 17. They are very different but I believe in both. It is a great time to be a Boston sports fan. Let's hope the Bruins stay the course and finish off these Philly fucks. Then let's watch the Celts turn it around at home and even up the series against this team of pricks.

Colby Cohen coming back to Boston

The Bruins have just completed a trade with the Colorado Avalanche to deal defenseman Matt Hunwick to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman and former BU Terrier Colby Cohen. The deal clears about 1.4 million dollars in cap space and makes room for Marc Savard's return in the coming days.

Colby Cohen was quoted: "I was praying," he said. "I had a few cities in mind, but I was praying it wasn't Edmonton, and when he said Boston, I was like, 'Wow, this couldn't be any better.'

"I'm sort of lost for words right now because there's not a better place," he said. "I never realized how much I loved it before I left, and I miss Boston in the worst way."

It was tough for the Bruins to let Hunwick go as he was a Bruins draft pick out of the University of Michigan in 2004 and was developed as a Bruin which makes this move tough for both sides. Hunwick is expected to be in Colorado's lineup upon arrival and could affect the ice time of former BU Terrier Kevin Shattenkirk who has been lighting it up out there the last couple games.

Cohen was assigned to the AHL affiliate Providence Bruins leaving the Bruins with a six man defensive rotation for the time being.

Thursday's Hockey Odds and Ends

The Boston Bruins defeated the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night, 3-1, in a contest held down in D.C. The Bruins got goals from David Krejci, Milan Lucic, and Matt Hunwick, as well as a stellar 35 save performance from goalie Tim Thomas. The Bruins D-Men kept the Capitals potent offense in check, including shutting down superstar Alex Ovechkin. Lucic recorded the always impressive "Gordie Howe Hat Trick", which consists of a goal, assist, and a fight (see the goal below this post).  Thomas continues to make his case for starting goalie, improving his record this season to 3-0 with a ridiculous .67 gaa and a .979 save percentage. The B's are back in action tonight against these same Capitals, this time at the Garden...


Prior to the Bruins-Capitals game on Tuesday night, Versus showed a 15 minute video about former BU Terrier Travis Roy. For those of you who don't know, Roy was a promising 20 year old freshman in 1995 who suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury only 11 seconds into his BU career. The injury left Roy a quadriplegic, and forever ended his hockey career. These days, Roy gives motivational speeches and raises money for his charity, The Travis Roy Foundation. The video included BU great Chris Drury as well as legendary coach Jack Parker You can find the video right below this post, and I'd definitely recommend that any BU fan or hockey fan in general should watch it...

Keeping with BU hockey, the men travel to Zoomass tomorrow night for a rematch of last Saturday night's tie at Agganis, while the women take on St. Lawrence at Walter Brown Arena. If you are a BU student who doesn't want to make the trek out to Amherst like QuackQuack will be, I would highly recommend attending the women's game. They are extremely talented this year and are a fun team to watch...

Ever since I bought tickets through BC for the BU at BC game last season, I've been receiving e-mails from the BC athletic department from time to time. And last night, I received probably the funniest e-mail yet - a promo for the upcoming "Ice Jam". Apparently the "Ice Jam" is some sort of retarded rally to get kids hyped about the winter sports season. Here's the best part - this dumb ass video featuring members of the men's and women's hockey and basketball teams:

Seriously how retarded is that? First off, getting Bob Costas as emcee seems a little dramatic. This isn't the opening ceremonies of the Olympics for Chrissakes. It's an overblown rally. Plus, what kind of production value is that? Cmon looks like that video was shot on a freakin Flip Cam or some shit. All I'm saying is for a school that thinks it's a half step away from Harvard, that was pretty shitty. Did none of them own a camcorder or something? Good lord. I guess I'll just never understand those holy-types...

Warso's a Bruin (Someday, Maybe)

According to ESPN Boston yesterday, the Boston Bruins traded Vladimir Sobotka to the St. Louis Blues in order to acquire the rights to flashy rising junior defenseman at Boston University, David Warsofsky. Chiarelli specifically was quoted as saying that he'd like to leave the Terrier star in school for some more seasoning, he does really like the way he plays. Warso was originally a 4th-round pick in the 2008 draft (95th overall). I can't wait for the chance to keep seeing one of my favorite Terriers stay in the 617 as a pro. I think this is a great opportunity for Warsofsky, especially as a real local kid, and potentially an great low-risk, high-reward opportunity for the Bruins.

In more NHL draft news, another incoming freshman, Yassin Cisse, was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers with the last pick in the 5th round. Hopefully he'll be a good complement to Charlie Coyle as well as other incoming and returning Terriers on the ice this season.
