Colby Cohen and Warsofsky look solid as P-Bruins roll Worcester Sharks

BSRS took the show on the road last night and made the trip out to Worcester to watch the Providence Bruins lead by former BU Terriers Colby Cohen and David Warsofsky defeat the Worcester Sharks(including John McCarthy and Sean Sullivan). Providence got on the board first with a J. Arniel goal before Worcester tied it up before the end of the 1st. The game was all Providence from there on out. Worcester's goalie C. Hutton was less than stellar letting some very stoppable shots through as Providence cruised to a 4-1 win to keep their slim playoff chances alive. The two teams square off again today in Providence at 4:15.

Colby Cohen started for Providence and looked fairly solid throughout the night posting a +2 rating for the evening and playing solid defense for the most part along with his usual one or two big slappers from the point. Dave Warsofsky also put out a solid effort for the Bruins. He had a bad slashing penalty in the second but besides that played a solid game making much better decisions than he did at BU this season and filling his role well besides pressing as he did here. Both former Terriers looked to be meeting expectations and both have a shot at playing in the NHL someday not too far away. It may be one or two years but both certainly have the potential. McCarthy and Sullivan both played well also and both could see time up and down between San Jose and Worcester over the next couple of season.

On a side note, there was one scuffle in the game that at one point lead to Colby Cohen putting former BU captain John McCarthy in a headlock but things were settled down from there. Cohen might not have even been doing it for anything but laughs and knowing McCarthy wouldn't fight him. Overall, the DCU center was a great atmosphere with over 7,000 packed in for this contest.

Terrier captain Pereira signs ATO...Warso on his way to Providence

BU terriers captain Joe "Bulldog" Pereira has signed an ATO with the Worcester Sharks,the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Pereira told the Boston Hockey blog he was unsure about how long he would be out in Worcester on his amateur tryout contract. Pereira joins former Terriers Sean Sullivan and 09 co-captain John McCarthy on Worcester's squad. Pereira earned this tryout with all of his hard work for the program here at BU for four year. All of the students here at BU wish Joe the best in his career and know he is going to be on the top line for San Jose in no time with McCarthy as the center and Charlie Coyle on the other wing. That line will be a force to reckon with for years to come and be holding up a cup someday...



How can you not root for Joe? just going to work with his shovel each day..

Back from my dreams though...Dave Warsofsky is signing with the Bruins and forgoing his final year of eligibility according to multiple sources throughout the BU campus and hockey world. This is not official yet but should be either tomorrow or Friday. We all wish Warso the best moving forward as he plays for the hometown team in the NHL.


Warsofsky's signing opens up another can of worms with fans sure to start the speculation on other BU players. To get my opinion on this go to my article I wrote awhile back here that sums up the situation of each player pretty well. To sum it up, I think the only other Terrier leaving is sophomore RW Alex Chiasson but you will hear Kieran Millan and Charlie Coyle's names thrown around but Coyle was in class today so everyone can just chill. Any other guy leaving would just be a result of the Brian Strait fallout. He left because he was a junior and the current NHL CBA sucks if a guy stays all four years. This seems to not hold true for goalies which is why Millan stays because he can play here and he is the third rated goalie prospect for the Avalanche.

Terriers take 3 points from Black Bears

The Boston University Terriers took 3 crucial points over in the weekend up in Orono,Maine(read Canada). The Terriers battled hard Friday night and overcame a 3 goal spurt by Maine in 1:12 in the second period. The Black Bears lead 3-1 after this spurt but the Terriers quickly came back to tie it up 3-3 with two goals in the rest of the period. BU got the first goal of the game from Corey Trivino and then got a nice goal from Alex Chiasson and the third from sophomore Wade Meagan.

The Terriers then took the lead for good with an absolute bomb from defenseman Dave Warsofsky to beat Maine goalie Shawn Sirman and give Terriers a huge 4-3 win at Alfond Arena. The win was a huge two points in the standings and the team rode behind their goalie Kieran Millan who was spectacular.

Saturday night started poorly for the Terriers as Kieran Millan gave up his only goal on the first shot he faced of the night. He then continued to make saves on the next 40 and pull out a point with a 1-1 tie. The Terriers got outshot in the first 20-2 and looked awful on the powerplay but a shorthanded goal by senior captain Joe Pereira got the team the tying goal in the first and the score remained that way for the remainder of the night.

The three point weekend moves the Terriers up to 13 in the RPI standings and 15 in the pairwise. They also concluded their tough stretch of games against the top of HE with a 2-2-1 record after starting 0-2. The Terriers now fall back into a more normal schedule and the ultimate trap game this Friday against UMASS-Lowell. Lowell is the worst team in HE if not the country but they have the Terriers at Agganis Arena Friday night before the Beanpot semifinal game against on Monday. The Terriers need to stay focused and beat a pesky Lowell team that has beaten Merrimack at home in the last couple of weeks. They could easily do the same to BU.

Hobey Baker Watch Part 1

I know it's only November, but it's never too early to start looking at the potential front runners for the nations best player award. I've compiled a quick list of the guys I think would have a chance to win it if the award was given tomorrow...

1.) Carter Camper, Senior, Forward - Miami of Ohio
Commit this name to memory, because this kid can flat out play. In 14 games this season, he has 12 goals and 18 assists for a total of 30 points. 30 points and it's not even December. Good lord. That comes out to 2.14 points per game, so if Miami plays 40 games this season (as they have the past two years), he would be on pace to have 85 points, which is simply not right. Camper is surprisingly undrafted, which many feel is a product of his size - only 5'-9", 170. In his first 3 seasons with the Red Hawks, he tallied 41, 42 and 44 points, respectively.

2.) Andy Miele, Senior, Forward - Miami of Ohio
A teammate of Carter Camper's at Miami, Andy Miele knows how to score as well. In 14 games, he's tallied 6 goals and 19 assists for 25 points (1.79 ppg). He would only be on pace to have 71 points to Carter's 85. No big deal. Miele is also undrafted (chalk it up to size again: 5'8", 175), but he was invited to the Washington Capitols camp last summer. In his first 3 seasons with Miami, he totaled 14, 31, and 44 points, respectively.

3.) Jaden Schwartz, Freshman, Forward - Colorado College
An impressive freshman, Schwartz has 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points in only 12 games thus far this season. Prior to playing at Colorado College, Jaden skated for the Tri City Storm of the USHL. He was taken 14th overall in the 2010 NHL entry draft by the St. Louis Blues.

4.) Jack Connolly, Junior, Center - Minnesota Duluth
Younger brother of BU's own Chris Connolly, Jack has been putting on a show thus far this season. In 14 games, he has 5 goals and 15 assists, good for 20 points. Prior to playing for UMD, he played for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL and was named the 2007-2008 USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year.

5.) Dave Warsofsky, Junior, Defenseman, Boston University
Yeah, I'm being a bit of a homer with this one. But Warso is leading Hockey East in defensemen scoring (4-7-11), is averaging just under a point a game, and has a +/- of 7. For a D-man, that's all pretty good. If his offensive numbers keep up or even improve, look for him to be in the Hobey talk come second semester.


Honestly, if the award was given tomorrow, there's no doubt in my mind it goes to Carter Camper. If his offensive output continues, don't be surprised if his name is getting called next spring.
