BSRS Weekly Awards 12/3

Greg Jennings Award- given to the Terrier who best exemplifies the qualities of Greg Jennings through doin' shit and putting the team on his back. (YOU CAN'T STOP HIM)

Winner- Matt O'Connor- OC has been hot lately and Coach Quinn has rewarded him with 4 straight starts where he has given up 7 goals total in this span. He made 37 saves on 39 shots this weekend vs Cornell and was visibly pumped when BU held on for the victory. OC wins his second straight GJ

Joe Pereira TrophyGiven to the Terrier who, through grit, hard work, and determination helps the team to victory on and off the scoresheet. Just like Joey did. (Interview can be read here)

Winner- Mike Moran,F- Moran was flying all over the ice once again Saturday night for the Terriers. He not only tallied the first goal on a sweet pass from Danny O'Regan. His line continued to play well while also staying out of the box. It is no coincidence that the team has gone on a 4 game unbeaten streak with his line intact.

2013-2014 (3rd annual)Hockey LEast Pre-Season Awards

It is once again the time of year where the media releases all of their preseason polls. This means that fans(including us) will get all ticked off because their team is picked to finish 4th instead of 3rd(1st in our case) in the conference. While I have already posted our predictions, we will continue our set of awards that we post at the beginning and conclusion of each season. The Hockey LEast awards(2012-2013 final awards here) are who we think are the worst players and coaches for a various number of reasons including performance, team , off-ice rapping career etc. If you want to whine about it, feel free to leave a comment.

(Worst) Coach of the Year- Jerry York (BC)
-The fact that our pal Jerry hasn't won this award before is quite surprising in itself but we believe BC will suck enough for him to come through this year. It is really too perfect as the media and fellow coaches pumps up BC's hype in the pre-season polls. This is a team that is reliant on a freshman class to have success this season. Someone name me the last team that made a serious run with as many freshmen playing important roles as BC will have this year. The answer is never.  Throw in his team's inevitable failure this year and the fact that York and Co. will probably have to cover up more off the ice issues, this was an easy choice for our Hockey LEast coach of the year. Let the countdown for most career losses continue. 569 and counting...

BU/BC weekend recap

First- we would like to thank everyone for making November such a success as it was our best month ever by far in page views. Also, we have posted on Twitter that we are taking requests for who fans would like to see interviewed next. We can't promise anything but we will try to get another interview in before the end of the semester if the interest is there. Feel free to leave a comment or send us an email if you are not on Twitter.

The first weekend of December always means one thing...BU/BC hockey and this year we got the pleasure of adding in basketball game down in Newton as well. Let's start with hockey. Friday night was a great turnout from BU fans as four full Peter Pan Buses filled up and traveled down to the shitty suburb of Newton to fill up the upper levels of Conte Forum. BU students including your favorite bloggers were there chanting at BC security over an hour before the game began. Then the team followed and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after goals on a Charlie Coyle snipe and a Yasin Cisse breakaway goal(his first collegiate goal) after he was sprung on a great pass from freshman Alexx Privitera. BU was outshot throughout the game but continued to find ways to put the puck in the net as Garrett Noonan scored on BU's only shot on net in the 2nd period. BC tipped a puck in on one of their many power plays most of which was due to them flopping all over the ice like a bunch of little bitches(Yes, I'm talking to you Steve Whitney- who was later ejected for embellishment in the 3rd). It was 3-1 heading into third when freshman forward Cason Hohmann scored his first collegiate goal on a great pass from Sean Escobedo. That was the dagger and sent BC's fake fans back home while BU's fans partied for the remainder of the game. The final score was 5-3 good guys.
After the game, there was some more action as BU legendary coach Jack Parker told BC coach Jerry York what he thought of BC's diving throughout the game. York responded with sarcasm and then had words with Parker because he thought it was disrespectful when the BU team stick saluted BU fans after the 11/13 5-0 win. Parker apologized and the team went to the locker room while BC stood out there listening to their stupid slow and agonizing alma mater song. My theory on this is if you don't want an opposing team to stick salute on your ice then beat them. It's not our problem that we have more fans than you at your own home rink. Just typical BC move where they claim they' ve been wronged just because they suck.
Anyway onto to the bad, BC managed a split with a 6-1 victory at Agganis. BU outshot BC in front of a sold out and rocking Agganis Arena but BC managed to capitalize on some opportunities and solid play from freshman goalie Brian Billett who replaced the sieve that is Parker Milner. This ended the season series 2-1 in favor of BU with possible rematches remaining in the Beanpot Final, Hockey East and NCAA tournaments. I was really impressed with the student sections as even when the outcome was certain, the students stayed and kept chanting. BC's 9 fans in attendance were not heard from all night despite the scoreboard. The team also impressed in the effort department as they never stopped hitting and trying against those flopping girls. BU plays next this Thursday at UNH to finish up the season series with those dirty hicks after they just got swept by Lowell. They then finish up the first half of the season traveling deep into inbred territory at Maine on Saturday night.
Now, onto basketball as BU, an America East team, beat BC(ACC team) 75-61. I made the trip down to Newton for this one as well and the home crowd was almost as embarrassing as the team as they allowed BU to shoot over 35% from 3 point land to give coach Joe Jones a win over his former employer. BU senior Daryl Partin was easily the best player on the court as he continue to be one of the top 10 scorers in the nation. The win was great for the program and the team, who has now won 4 in a row. BU, once again, had a solid fan contingent and might have had more students at the game then BC did. Great game for the Terriers who play next Wed 12/7 against St. Joe's in Philly.

Parker York Round 2

Last time I made one of these gems, BU won 5-0 so I'm trying it again. Once again, this is based off of no actual conversations between the two coaches so no one try to sue me.

The following conversation is totally made up and not a reflection of any real conversations that have taken place before between Jerry York and Jack Parker. GO BU and enjoy

York signs five year extension with BC and called the "best coach in America"

Newton College's own historic coach Jerry York signed a five year contract extension to lock up his stay in Newton(not Boston) through the 2014-2015 seasons. This is all well and good considering he is a decent coach and I love to see him and Parker go and call each other friends in interviews while York is picking up our scraps *cough Vinny Saponari cough* and trying to use him to beat us next year in HE. I got a little heated when I first read this line so let me put the quote first from the article:
“Jerry York is the best collegiate hockey coach in America,” athletic director Gene DeFilippo said.

This is where I lost it. Like yeah yeah I know the athletic director is suppose to say something nice when they sign a coach to an extension but come on DeFlippo. This guy is such a douche it is ridiculous. I won't even get into his disputes with their other coaches(O'Brien, Jagodzinski, Al Skinner(aka Mr.Ed) because I don't have time for that nor does anyone with a life. This quote just is the perfect example of the arrogance of BC and their athletic program. Like yes he has won three national championships in his time at BC. I am not saying he is a bad coach but fucking Jack Parker is down the street in his 38th year on the bench with five national championships(three as head coach and two in the last years('71 and '72) behind the bench with legend Jack Kelley)in his pocket. DeFlippo just continues to assume BC is above all else. Fuck him and fuck choir boys. Parker is just one example of a coach who is just as good/better than York while also having the same amount of experience. Parker has a higher winning percentage as coach(.648 to .605). Of course I am going to defend Parker as the best coach in the game because I love him (in a no homo way of course). There are so many other great coaches currently in the game though. Here are a few to make my argument even more legitimate:

1. Rick Comley- Michigan St.- 768 wins, 37 years

2.Red Berenson- Michigan- for all 26 years, .669 winning percentage, 699 wins, 2 NCAA titles

3.Mike McShane- Norwich- 29 years .638 winning percentage,564 wins despite coaching Providence from '86 to '94, 29 years, 1 D-III championship

4.Don Lucia- Minnesota, .643 winning percentage, 23 years, 2 NCAA Titles

5. Bill Beaney-Middlebury- 30 years , .711 winning percentage, 8 D-III Championships

6. George Gwozdecky-Denver- 524 wins, .522 wins, 24 years, 2 NCAA Titles

These are all great coaches to go along with Parker's 3 titles, .648 winning percentage, 834 wins, 3-time NCAA coach of the year, 5 time Hockey East coach of the year, 30 NCAA Tournament games won, 7 HE tournament titles, 8 HE regular season titles, 21 Beanpot Titles...
Also coached the following great players

1. Jim Craig
2. Mike Eruzione 3. Keith Tkachuk 4. Chris Drury 5. Matt Gilroy 6. Jay Pandolfo 7. Rick DiPietro 8. Ray Whitney 9. Tony Amonte

Shall I continue DeFlippio? Fuck you. York isn't the best coach in America right now. He is in the top 5 and probably the top two or three but is not the best. Get over yourself you arrogant piece of shit. We're going to destroy you in 9/10 days and shut you up ourselves.
