Terriers Named Hockey East Team of the Week, Move Up in Polls; Colby Cohen is Stirring the Fire

Killing me Colby. Killing me.

After a win and a tie up in Orono this weekend, our Terriers are garnering some recognition for themselves. In the USCHO.com poll, BU moved up two spots to number 14 (surpassing Maine, who dropped three spots to number 15) and improved their Pairwise ranking to 15. The Terriers were also well represented (as always) in Hockey East's weekly release. Kieran Millan was named Co-Defensive Player of the week, an award he shared with Northeastern's standout goalie Chris Rawlings. Alex Chiasson was named in the weekly top performers list (1g, 1a) and Joe Pereira was named in the Who's Hot/Career Milestones list for picking up his first shorthanded goal as a Terrier. In perhaps the most impressive award doled out to the Terriers, they picked up Hockey East team of the week honors. All in all, not a bad couple of days for the Scarlet and White...

Also, the Glass saga continues with our old pal Colby Cohen. CC, you'll remember, had a rocket shot and an attitude to match - and it seems as if the AHL hasn't deprived him of the latter at least. The Boston Hockey Blog has the full story, but basically the gist of it is that Cohen called Glass a liar on twitter and said that Glass is lucky to have not been booted last season. Real classy, Colby. As if this story wasn't burning up in the press to begin with, we needed CC to dump some gasoline on it. Just when I thought we had put this dumb story to bed...

Hockey East Power Rankings - Light Version

Back here with another set of HE rankings for you guys as the season enters the home stretch. With lots to be decided in the next 5 or so weekends, it seems that spots 3-8 are completely up in the air. For now, though, here's how I see it...

1. Boston College
2. UNH
3. BU
4. Merrimack
5. Maine
6. Northeastern
7. UMass - Amherst
8. Vermont
9. Providence College
10. UMass - Lowell

Terriers take 3 points from Black Bears

The Boston University Terriers took 3 crucial points over in the weekend up in Orono,Maine(read Canada). The Terriers battled hard Friday night and overcame a 3 goal spurt by Maine in 1:12 in the second period. The Black Bears lead 3-1 after this spurt but the Terriers quickly came back to tie it up 3-3 with two goals in the rest of the period. BU got the first goal of the game from Corey Trivino and then got a nice goal from Alex Chiasson and the third from sophomore Wade Meagan.

The Terriers then took the lead for good with an absolute bomb from defenseman Dave Warsofsky to beat Maine goalie Shawn Sirman and give Terriers a huge 4-3 win at Alfond Arena. The win was a huge two points in the standings and the team rode behind their goalie Kieran Millan who was spectacular.

Saturday night started poorly for the Terriers as Kieran Millan gave up his only goal on the first shot he faced of the night. He then continued to make saves on the next 40 and pull out a point with a 1-1 tie. The Terriers got outshot in the first 20-2 and looked awful on the powerplay but a shorthanded goal by senior captain Joe Pereira got the team the tying goal in the first and the score remained that way for the remainder of the night.

The three point weekend moves the Terriers up to 13 in the RPI standings and 15 in the pairwise. They also concluded their tough stretch of games against the top of HE with a 2-2-1 record after starting 0-2. The Terriers now fall back into a more normal schedule and the ultimate trap game this Friday against UMASS-Lowell. Lowell is the worst team in HE if not the country but they have the Terriers at Agganis Arena Friday night before the Beanpot semifinal game against on Monday. The Terriers need to stay focused and beat a pesky Lowell team that has beaten Merrimack at home in the last couple of weeks. They could easily do the same to BU.

Here are the press conferences from the last couple nights....

Quack Quack's Money in the bank locks of the week

So I apologize for the skipped week of my "Money in the bank" but I was too depressed by the Pats' loss to do much last week. Now that the Jets lost I am back and ready to gamble well tell you what to gamble on. My overall record now stands at 24-17 which ain't bad and would have made you a good chunk of change if you re throw a couple dimes down on each game like I told you to.
Here goes this week:

NBA:
NY Knicks@ Atlanta Hawks(-6.5)
- The Knicks are coming off a big home win over the Heat and look to keep it going in Atlanta. Atlanta is very good at home and a better team overall than New York but I just don't see them winning by 7 tonight. I think it is a tight Atlanta win or NY steals one on the road behind Amare.

The pick- NY Knicks(+6.5)

O/U- NY @ ATL (212)
- I like the under in this game as well. Atlanta typically plays low scoring games and the Knicks are coming off one last night so I expect more of the same here.

The pick- Under 212

Tennis
Mens Australian Open Final

Andy Murray(GB) vs. Novak Djokovic(Serbia)

- GW is going to hate this but I gotta go with the Serb here. He has played so well this whole tournament and has won it before(2008) so he knows that he can finish the deal here. Murray has the pressure of the whole country of Great Britain to win a major and I think that pressure will be relieved someday when he wins one but I don't think that day is today. Djokovic wins 3-1.

The Pick- Djokovic

Terriers Travel to Orono, Play Two Against Maine

This stretch of games for the Terriers just hasn't been easy. The Terriers last 3 games have all come against nationally ranked teams - Merrimack, BC and UNH - and now they have 2 against another nationally ranked team, #11/12 Maine. This is easily one of the tougher stretches BU has had all year, and more than 2 points out of this weekend would go a long way to helping keep this team in the race for home ice.

The last time we saw the Black Bears of Maine was wayyyy back in November, a contest at Agganis that played out to a 2-2 tie. Since then, the Black Bears have been all over the place: Getting swept by BC (and then rebounding to take one against them), tying PC, getting stomped 7-1 by Merrimack, and just last weekend tying Northeastern 3-3. There is no doubt they can play, it just really depends on which Maine team shows up on a given night. Some nights they play as well as UNH and BC, some nights they have to get lucky to tie Northeastern or PC. Something tells me they will be ready to play this weekend, but not on both nights. If the Terriers can weather the Black Bear storm on Friday or Saturday (whichever day they decide to show up), then this is a weekend where we could conceivably take 3 or 4 points. However, if we don't show up on one or both nights, this could be a 0 or 1 point weekend. It really all depends on which Terrier and Maine squads we see.

Currently, Maine sits 1 point behind us in Hockey East with 2 games in hand. If we can go up to Orono and earn a sweep, that would go a long long way to separate us from the pack of teams currently sitting in 4-8. This is shaping up to be a season where home ice could very well be decided on the last weekend, so the Terriers need all the points they can get coming down the home stretch.

Unfortunately, neither game is on TV this weekend (NESN wants to show UMass-Northeastern and Merrimack-UVM instead? Let me know how those ratings are). Luckily for us BU fans, the Boston Hockey Blog will be doing their usual live blogging of both games. And if you are around Boston and starved for some hockey, then join (potentially) some of the BSRS guys at Walter Brown tonight as our Lady Terriers take on UConn in conference play. The women are currently ranked #3 in the country, and are definitely in the National Championship talk - so come see a game!

No matter what you end up doing tonight, just remember as always - GO TERRIERS!

The 2010-2011 Terriers are Turning Into a Soap Opera...

...All we need are some evil step-siblings, a love triangle and some sort of evil leprechaun - like a sadistic lucky charms dude.

There really is just no other way to put it. The Saponari's getting booted. Vinny getting accepted and then rejected from BC. Sophomores Trivino/Chiasson getting suspended. Glass getting suspended and then tossed off the team - and now this: Andrew Glass and his Father responding to the dismissal, to which a current Terrier fires back. I advise you to read both of those Boston Hockey Blog articles before continuing reading this post, otherwise you won't get it.

First off, let's establish the fact that I thought the timing and manner of Glass' dismissal from the team to be a little odd. Why would Parker suspend a player, only to boot him off of the team a week or two later? Why wouldn't he have just tossed him off the team and been done with it? Unless Glass cussed out Parker or something of the like following his suspension, the timeline of events just doesn't make sense. It's not as if Glass could have missed/shown up late to any more meetings, considering all of that took place when players were home for the holidays.

Second, it seems that the truth falls somewhere between the Glass family story and the Parker/defending player story (by the way, I'd bet every dollar I had in the bank that the "unnamed Terrier" was either Joe Pereira or Dave Warsofsky - probably Pereira). There's no way that Glass was a perfect angel in all of this business, but it also seems unlikely that Parker had no other choice but to kick him off the team. Glass probably messed up in a moderate manner, and Parker - keeping with his "no bullshit" approach to this season - tossed him off the team to get rid of the problem before it had a chance to grow. Not saying I agree with the thinking there, just saying it seems likely.

Third, what does this mean for the program as a whole? Most of the BU thread on the USCHO forum is pulling a chicken little, but I don't think the situation is all that dire for Parker or the Terriers as a whole. While it may not be enticing for some recruits to know that they can't just do whatever they want and get away with it, I feel like most kids being recruited by BU would understand that this program meant business and that donning a BU sweater is a privilege that Parker won't hesitate to revoke. While we cannot ascertain the true ramifications of this event just yet, I'm sure we will know within the next year or so if the events of this season and offseason have negatively affected our recruiting. For now, I just hope we don't turn into "All of My Children"...

Terriers Drop A Spot in Polls, Other Odds and Ends

Although we around here were happy with BU's defeat of UNH on Saturday night, I guess the powers in charge of polls weren't quite as excited. BU dropped one spot in this week's USCHO.com poll to #16, after a week that saw the Terriers play 3 close games resulting in 1 win and 2 losses. BC jumped to 2, UNH stayed at 7, Maine dropped to 12 and Merrimack dropped to 14 following this past week's action...

In Hockey East's weekly release, there were numerous Terriers mentioned. In the "Weekly Top Performers" category, Adam Clendening (3 assists, +3), Charlie Coyle (2g, 2a and +2) and Kieran Millan (100 saves) were all named. In the "Who's Hot/Career Firsts" category, Chris Connolly and Garrett Noonan (the former for playing in 100 career games, the latter for scoring his first collegiate goal) get mentioned...

Sticking with Hockey East, HE Online featured Chris Connolly in their most recent "5 Minute Major" interview piece. ChrisCo talked about his origins with hockey, his brother Jack and the reasons he came to BU, amongst other things. For our lazier readers who don't feel like going to find the video, I've embedded it below...

Joe Pereira will be featured in Hockey East's weekly online chat, which will occur tomorrow at 12:30. If you've been saving questions to ask the Senior captain but never garnered the courage to do so in person, here's your chance...

Terriers Take 2 Points Out of a Tough Weekend; Lose to BC

Coming into this weekends match-ups with BC and UNH, I think any BU fan would have been happy to take any amount of points. Both teams are ranked in the top-10 in the country, they rank 1st and 2nd in Hockey East, and are generally considered to be favorites to make the NCAA tournament at this point in the season. Let's face it folks, points are hard to come by against these types of teams. And although BU couldn't get a win or tie against arch-rival BC on Friday, they were able to sneak out a victory at UNH on Saturday night.

The contest against BC at Agganis started out exactly the way any Terrier fan DIDN'T want it to - mistakes by BU, leading to easy chances for BC - which they turned into a 3-0 victory after the first period. You could almost hear the collective groan of BU fans following the 3rd goal, as if to say "Here we go again...". Yet the Terriers weren't about to let this game turn into another embarrassing blowout on their home ice. Garrett Noonan potted his first collegiate goal off a Chiasson feed, and Dave Warsofsky pumped in a bomb on the powerplay to put the Terriers only behind 3-2 going into the 3rd period. While the Terriers were buzzing around Muse for much of the final frame, they were unable to put in that final tally and dropped the close contest 3-2. Kieran Millan kept BU in the game with 24 saves, none more impressive than what can only be described as highway robbery on one of the Hayes during the 3rd period. Kieran slid from the right post to the left post and nabbed the short range chance with his glove at the last second to keep BC from extending their lead.

Although the Terriers didn't pull out the victory on Friday, their play in the final two periods inspired confidence in many BU fans, including yours truly. They headed up to Durham, New Hampshire on Saturday to try and take 2 points from the HE leading Wildcats - and they did. UNH got on the board first during a powerplay early in the 2nd period, as Kieran Millan sprawled out to make a save and left the BU net more or less open (besides Nicastro attempting to play goalie) for UNH to score. BU knotted the score up only a few minutes later on a powerplay of their own, as freshman Charlie Coyle fended off a UNH defender, corralled an Adam Clendening rebound and slid it past UNH netminder Matt DiGirolamo. BU wasn't done with their scoring in the second, however, as Ross Gaudet scored the eventual game winner with 7:17 left in the second. Linemate Wade Megan caused a turnover at the blue line, and Gaudet fended off two UNH defenders to poke it just past DiGirolamo for the goal. To be fair, I'm not 100% sure Gaudet actually hit it in. I thought then and still think now that one of the UNH defenders, in an attempt to knock the puck loose, actually scored on his own net. Regardless, the puck went in the net and led to a Terrier victory. Kieran Millan had another spectacular night in net, stopping 39 shots and doing a great job of grabbing loose pucks and handling some tricky bounces off of lively endboards.

With the win, the Terriers now sit alone in 3rd place in Hockey East, behind BC and UNH. They are next in action with the team directly behind them in the standings, as they play two up in Maine next weekend. For now, here's this weekend's press conferences and video highlights...

Is It Bad That I'm Predicting a BU Loss?

What you don't see is Parker putting a knife in York's back...

Look, don't shoot me for this. I'm George Washington, I have to tell the truth, remember? Or was that Abe Lincoln...whatever. Point is, I don't see any way BU pulls out a victory tonight against BC. Coming off a lackluster 3-2 loss to Merrimack that was kept close solely thanks to Kieran Millan, I have rather little faith in this game. Sure, they pulled out a bad win over lowly Vermont and beat up on even lowlier Harvard, but those are the games you are supposed to win. The game against Merrimack was one in which our Terriers could have let the rest of Hockey East know they aren't kidding around this semester, that they will be a team to be reckoned with come March. Instead, they really only challenged the Mack for the last twenty minutes and got trucked over in the first 40. Had it not been for a stellar effort from Kieran, that game could have easily been a 5-2 or 6-2 loss. Not exactly the type of stuff that inspires confidence to a team and its fan base ( or as the BC fans like to say, "fan boys").

BC is coming into this game off of a 4-1 loss to Maine last Sunday. If you'll recall, prior to the last set of BU-BC games BC dropped a contest to Merrimack (which they followed up with a murdering of VT, but that game hardly counts). And I think we all remember the punishment they laid down on us that following weekend. BC also hasn't lost back to back games all season, and the closest they even came to that was a close 3-2 victory over Merrimack following  2-1 loss to Notre Dame back in October. If recent history is any indication, we are quite literally screwed tonight.

So what do I think is going to happen when the puck drops at 7:30 later today? I think (or hope, at least) that BU is embarrassed by the last meeting against these guys and come out flying. However, BC will be able to weather the storm and any early goal BU may put up and comes back to win 4 or 5-2. I will admit that there is a chance BC plays kind of flat and we take advantage of their mistakes, but it's probably a small chance. In that instance, we probably end in like a 3-3 tie or something. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer here, I'm just calling it like I see it...

That being said, GO BU!

Terriers lose to Merrihack...prepare for BC/UNH weekend

The BU Terriers came out of the gates flying for the first and second periods but got nothing to show for it(in a 3-2 loss) and Merrimack quickly took control of both periods to gain a 3-0 lead at Lawler Arena. The Terriers came out in the third with a similar energy and got two goals in the first eight minutes to make it a game once again at 3-2. Freshman Charlie Coyle tallied the first goal while senior captain Joe Pereira knocked home his tenth of the year for the second. The team had chances after that to tie up the game but could never grab the equalizer. They never even got the chance to pull Millan as Dave Warsofsky was called for an questionable tripping call with 2:45 left where the Merrimack player seemed to take a bit of a dive. After the penalty was killed, BU couldn't gain control of the puck to mount any attack.

The game's physical nature, which was lacking without the presence of Merrihack goon Kyle Bigos, escalated quickly when freshman Terrier defenseman Adam Clendening hit Merrimack forward Joe"Dirty" Cucci into the boards where he crippled to the ice. He laid motionless for over a minute before standing up and magically skating off under his own power. I had a bit of a debate with Merrimack blogger Mike McMahon as he called the hit dirty. I was at the game with Quack the elder, GW, and felizmiguel. We all agreed that the hit was not dirty and it was boarding at worse. The refs assessed Clendening a 5 minute major and game misconduct which was irrelevant besides keeping him out of the lines for handshakes.

The aftermath got ugly as well. Merrihack leader Ryan Flanigan exchanged words with Terrier junior Dave Warsofsky in a colorful conversation for the whole rink to hear. Garrett Noonan also had an exchange as the buzzer sounded. This game hurts the Terriers chances for home ice in HE. They remain in a third place tie with Maine but the Black Bears now hold a game in hand.

This leads into the preview for this weekend as the Terriers face #3 BC Friday night at Agganis Arena and #7 UNH Saturday up in Durham. This is a big weekend for the Terriers as I feel they need two points this weekend and next weekend to stay in the hunt for the NCAA tournament and home ice in the HE tournament.

Those pretty boys from down in Newton will give us quite the test as we learned all too well from that weekend that I choose not to remember in December. Hopefully the team is ready to go on NESN in front of a soldout home crowd. There really are no reasons to not come out with energy and passion. Kieran Millan has been spectacular the last four games so expect another solid effort from him and hopefully the defense can clean up some mistakes to give the team a chance to win a huge game. This young team needs it not only for the standings but for confidence moving forward in conference play and the Beanpot next month. Here we go BU!
Look for BSRS on TV. We are going to make some great signs to get on NESN.

BU, BSRS Head to Merrimack Tonight

The BU men's hockey team will at least have 4 fans in the crowd tonight at Lawler Arena, as your very own QuackQuack, FelizMiguel (if he's still alive), QuackQuack the elder and myself will be trekking up for the game. Tonight is the 3rd and last game of the season series between the Mack and BU, and the first two contests both ended in ties (the second being an impressive come from behind effort for BU at Lawler). While Merrimack will be looking to take us down and claim another season series from a perennial powerhouse (they already took their series with BC), our Terriers need to win this game to stay in contention for home ice in HE as well as staying in the national tournament picture. Merrimack is coming off a pair of victories against independent team Alabama-Huntsville, a team that has struggled not only finding games to play but also winning them. Prior to that series, Merrihack drubbed Maine 7-1 at home in a game that can only be described as a blowout. If any BU fans think that this game isn't one to worry about, consider this: since the beginning of last season, Merrimack is 17-4-2 when playing at home. For whatever reason, they seem to enjoy playing in that shed of an arena. Probably reminds them of that time their uncle took them out back into the shed...

Anyways, the Boston Hockey Blog will have their live blog as always. They also wrote up a preview of tonight's contest, found in the Daily Free Press.

Bruins Do What the Patriots Struggled to Do, Put Up 7 Points

It only took him 12 and a half NHL seasons, but Zdeno Chara finally got his first hat trick. The Bruins tacked on 4 more goals and Tim Thomas topped the scoring performance off with a 31 shot shutout of the Carolina Hurricanes. Mark Stuart got the scoring started in his first game of the year, pouring in a slap shot from the blue line only 7:56 into the first period with McQuaid and Horton assisting. After causing a Milan Lucic goal to be waved off due to a delayed slashing penalty, the Bruins captain extended the lead to 3-0 when he posted back to back goals in the second half of the first period.

If anybody was worried about a repeat of the Canadiens collapse of a few games ago, the B's came out in the second period looking to ease those concerns. Although they were stymied for much of the frame, Gregory Campbell and Patrice Bergeron found the back of the net just 13 seconds apart (just as they did in the tough loss to the Penguins on Saturday) to more or less shut the door on the Hurricanes. But Zdeno Chara just wasn't done. After an early period goal by Michael Ryder in the 3rd, Zdeno Chara bombed a slapper from the point during a powerplay to tally his 3rd goal of the night - and celebrated accordingly. After the light went off, Chara skated back towards center ice, removed his right glove and mimicked a "throwing hat onto the ice" motion."It's always nice to say I've done it, I've had a hat trick", said Chara after the game.

The Bruins don't have long to gloat over tonight's victory, however. They take on these same Hurricanes  down in Raleigh on Tuesday night, a game in which the Hurricanes absolutely will be looking for revenge (Backup goalie Justin Peters, who came on in relief of Cam Ward, got started on the revenge tonight by picking up two frustration driven penalties). The Bruins, who have won 4 of their last 5, now sit tied with the Lightning for 2nd in the Eastern Conference behind the Flyers.

BU moves up one spot in poll...#15 going into biggest week of the season

Our Terriers mens ice hockey team moved up one spot this week in the polls from 16 to 15. This means very little as the only poll that matters is the Pairwise rankings and they have BU at a t-12 right now. The top 15 from the pairwise usually make the tournament along with the winner of the Atlantic Hockey conference because it is the NFC West of NCAA hockey. The rest of the top 20 looks like this:
1. Yale -Stay number one despite a tough 3-2 loss at Brown sunday night.
2. North Dakota-
3. Newton University- Stay in the top five but seem human once again after getting romped 4-1 at Maine where goalie John Muse was pulled after giving up four goals in less than two periods of work.
4. Denver
5. Minnesota-Duluth-Slowly climbing their way back up the polls after falling pretty hard from #1.
6. Michigan
7. New Hampshire- drop from 4 to 7 after a tough loss to Dartmouth Saturday night.
8. Notre Dame
9. Wisconsin
10. Maine
11. Miami
12. Union
13. Merrimack- Gives BU all the incentive in the world to go beat Merrihack on their ice Tuesday night.
14. RPI
15.BU- have a huge week that could cause them to drop out of the polls or climb back into the top ten in them
16. Nebraska-Omaha
17. Western Michigan
18. Dartmouth
19. Alaska
20. Princeton

Postgame: Umm, Don't Kill Yourself QuackQuack It's the PLAYOFFS

So the NY Jets played again very well against a very good Pats team. I'll give the Pats credit. 2 or 3 plays and the game might have been 21-21 or 28-28 going into overtime. The biggest disappointment for me in the Pats team is Brady not on his game. I'm not saying Brady sucked. The INT wasn't a bad throw; Green didn't just go get it. Brady went for Revis in this game compared to Peyton (scared pussy). They ran against the Jets compared to other teams. The offense was on for enough drives to make it count. The Pats weren't going to score 45 this time. A lot of people forget that the Jets didn't have their secondary signal caller for the 2nd game, Jimbo broke his leg the Thursday before the game and that didn't give Smith enough time to get the calls and checks right.

The offense line didn't play up to their billing either. Mr. Ellis played the game of his life. Gotta give the guy credit with his stat line ( 6 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 QB hits). Devito, who wasn't suppose to play that much this year got into the backfield and made some good plays. The O-line just wasnt there for me. IF the O-line played better, well maybe a win goes to New England. The Pats defense played well enough to win the game. I didn't see any plays that were horrible. The Edwards catch for the TD wasn't their fault, yeah you gotta wrap a guy up but if he somehow skimmy shakes you well I guess it wasn't meant to be. The Holmes catch for the TD was a well thrown ball that the defender couldn't defend. Vilfrok played like what big fat guys do playing the NT.

Special Teams.......... okay IF Chung made the play well than it's 1st down Pats. The onside kicks were right there but they couldn't fall on the ball, not their fault. Besides that they played well. Each team let good kick returns go back to around midfield (its the law of averages).

Rex Ryan used the same coaching scheme that Mr. Bill used against Sanchez in game 2 which is to rush 3 or 4 and leave everyone back and make them throw precise balls. Reminds me about the Giant vs. Bills SuperBowl where Mr. Bill let the Bills run the ball and dropped the defense back against the run. THE NFL IS A COPYCAT LEAGUE.

Now onto the J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS (GO KILL YOURSELF NOW QUACKQUACK, J/K DON'T CAUSE WE GOT BC THIS WEEKEND.

The Offense played well, not great for the Jets. Mark came out shaky. The 1st quarter was complete shit by him and the team. At first looked like the 2nd game. The run game was going to be there as long as they ran away from Vince (tubby) Wilfork the best player on the Pats defense in my opinion. They ran for 120 yards and kept the defense honest enough for Mark to throw the ball. The play calling looked reserved at times but you can't blame it on him cause he obviously doesn't call the plays or audibles out of enough of them. Yeah, Edwards and Holmes stole the show with TDs but Jericho Cotchery(ie Wayne Cherbet (2nd best Jet ever) circa late 90s and early 2000s) was the go to man in 3rd down conversions. Don't convert them equals field positions and scoring. He came off and injury and lost his rhythm with Sanchez for the 2nd game and didn't play well enough because of that and because of his play tonight A+ for him and B for the rest int receiving corp.

The Defense played smart. Didn't show their hand until I will say the 2nd quarter and confused the receiving corp of the Pats at times. Ellis as mentioned before was difference maker throughout the whole game. 2 huge sacks. Cromartie played well enough but I was fairly surprised that Brady didn't go at him that much even if it was for a jump ball, try at least once so you can put his FOOT in his mouth. Revis was Revis enough. Brady went after him which I was surprised.

Special Teams was shaky. Missed FG and not well executed onside kick returns. Besides that played average.

Overall, the game played up to my billing and hopefully all of yours.

PS- I really really hate my team for being immature idiots after the game.
PSS- Quack Quack, Rapelisburger or Dirty Sanchez?

Maine beats BC!......nothing else happened tonight

Those crazy Maine Black Bears! They come off a 7-1 slaughter by Merrimack last weekend and and run BC out of the building tonight in Maine. A big 4-1 win for Maine who is fighting for home ice in HE. This is the only athletic game I cared about tonight at all. I know there was playoff football on but let's be real the Packers are going to win it all anyway.

Ok for real. I spent the last two hours playing madden to avenge the loss the Pats just took. The more I thought about it though, the more I just realized we got outplayed. Rex Ryan didn't outcoach Belichick. Belichick had a plan in place to win the game. The fake punt was perfect if Chung fields the ball. The game is totally different if Crumpler makes that first TD catch. Brady wasn't good tonight and neither was much else on offense. This young defense kept the team in the game and there isn't much to complain about there. So here is to the Jets getting romped next week or having their heart torn out in the Super Bowl in a month. It was a good run for a team in a "Rebuilding"year. Now back to hockey...before I decided to jump off a bridge.

BU wins in mens' hockey and hoops

BU mens' basketball opened up the night with a 70-67 win in Albany. Hockey finished it with a 5-2 win over those smart bastards from across the river at Harvard.

First, the basketball team came over a 16 point halftime deficit to gain their largest come from behind win under coach Pat Chambers. Senior guard John Holland lead the team with 27 points and eight rebounds. Darryl Partin added 16 points to help BU refuse to lose this game to the Great Danes of Albany. The loss drops Albany to 1-4 in America East play while BU improves to 3-1 as they improve from their loss in to Maine in their first AE contest. Albany was lead by guard Tim Ambrose with 18 points in a game that Albany lead throughout until 4:00 to go when BU took over the game for good. BU continues AE play Monday in Baltimore at 7:00 p.m.

Next, the hockey game was the type of game BU hockey fans enjoyed as the team rose to #1 in the nation early in the season and the type of game the team needed before the toughest regular season week of the season. The captains lead the way with the scoring in a 5-2 win over (3-12-0) Harvard. Chris Connolly had two goal while fellow co-captain Joe Pereira tallied another as BU cruised once the game was tied up 1-1 early in the second. Wade Meagan and Justin Courtnall added the other goals for the Terriers. The goal was Courtnall's first and also was Pat MacGregor's first career point as he had an assist on the play.

MacGregor filled in for a suspended Max NiCastro and looked solid out there. He seemed to have grown since his last shot at action November 27th against Brown. The only flaw I noticed at the game was his failure to get on the ice. He was almost always the last guy on the ice for his line which may have been the plan to limit his ice-time but also due to inexperience doing so. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to inexperience. Overall, a good night for the freshman.

The whole team played well and "very thorough" to quote the great Jack Parker after the game. I was at the game and liked what I saw overall from the team. This was a big game with 3 ranked opponents looming this week(#12 Merrimack, #3 BC, #4 UNH). Kieran Millan looked solid in goal while not being forced to make any great saves out of his 31 that he made before Adam Kraus took over with five to go(he leads the Terriers now with 1.00 save% and 0.00 GAA). All four of the lines were skating well tonight and looked ready for a big week ahead of them. This was a must after the weak performance up in Vermont last weekend despite the 4-2 win. The Terriers had 21 more shots than the 16 they put up in Vermont. That tells it all as they got the puck on net early and often.

I would say the disappointment of the night(if there was one) was the Coyle-Chiasson-Nieto line. Coyle played physical but didn't do anything great with the puck and Nieto was trying to develop some stuff but it just wasn't there. Chiasson had a good first period but seemed to lose his head a bit in the second and third as he looked to retaliate for a hard hit in the second by hitting any Harvard player he could find. This isn't a bad mentality to have when you're up 5-2 and I love the agressiveness but QuackQuack the elder and myself noticed he seemed to lose his offensive mindset in the third. I expect this line to bounce right back as all three of these guys looked real good up in Vermont while the rest of the team struggled.

With the win, BU moves up to t-12 in the Pairwise rankings as Miami(OH) and company took some losses this weekend as teams enter the grind of their conference schedules as BU does this week. BU's next five games are against ranked teams as they play @#12 Merrimack,#3 BC,@#4 UNH, and two @#13 Maine. The game Tuesday is the game rescheduled from last Wednesday when it was snowed out. Merrimack may be missing enforcer(read: goon) Kyle Bigos as he was hurt in their game today @ Alabama-Huntsville. The injury seems serious enough to keep him out Tuesday but this will depend on how those tests come out when the team returns home because there is no way they have the right equipment to do that shit down south.

Pats/Jets Preview

So I don't expect anyone to actually read this because everyone in the world is talking about this game and all the pre-game shit surrounding it. It ranges from feet to Tom Brady being a winner to counting Cromartie's kids. When it comes down to the game, there will be trash talking and stuff on the field I'm sure but there is a game to be won here. The Pats pounded the Jets 45-3 in Foxboro and the Jets made the Pats offense look rather ordinary in their 28-14 Week 2 win. Let's take a look at what I think is important about this game now shall we?

1. Can the thin Pats D-Line stop the run?
- The Pats are dealing with all types of injuries as potential starters Ron Brace(elbow),Mike Wright(concussion), and Ty Warren(hip) are out. Myron Pryor(back) is also doubtful
so that leaves Vince Wilfork, Gerard Warren, Kyle Love Brandon Deadrick, Eric Moore and Landon Cohen as main contributors.

2. Can the Jets D stop the Pats' young TE s and RB s?
- I think the answer here is no. I expect big games from Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski along with Woodhead and BJGE.

3. Will a big play in special teams give one team momentum early in the game?
-I worry about Brad Smith still even though he is hurt but B Tate or Dan Connolly give the Pats two viable kickoff return specialists to give the team a spark.

4. Will Brady pick on Cromartie all day?
- I have to admit "Cro" didn't look so good last week as Peyton went to his side early and often. He would have been the scapegoat had the Jets lost that game.

5. Who is going to be the guy to step up with a big play?
- This isn't going to be a big name necessarily. I expect a guy with a lesser role to step up and make a big play like causing a turnover and scoring or a big play on offense to swing the tide of the game in the second half.

Anyway down to my prediction...Pats win 28-17.

Buy some cool shirts.

Quack Quack's Money in the bank locks of the week

Rough week last week. I think it was my first o for week but hey still above .500 so ill take it. Now 22-16 overall here goes nothing.

NFL:
Seattle@Chicago(-10)
- Seattle shocked the world last week and knocked off the Super Bowl Championship winner Saints last weekend. Now everyone is expecting the Bears to just roll Seattle by double digits. I don't buy it. Seattle can run the ball as everyone who saw that Marshawn Lynch run last week where he broke like 200 tackles. I think Seattle keeps it close if it doesn't win outright. I like Seattle with the points here. Chicago just ain' t that good. You really trust Jay Cutler to go win a playoff game for you? Exactly. Get ready for some more earthquakes.

The pick-Seattle(+10)

Green Bay @ Atlanta(-3)
- Green Bay is the popular pick here as many people like them to make a Superbowl run. I am one of those people. The Falcons didn't look good in that big Week 16 matchup with the Saints. I like Aaron Rodgers and the Pack here. Look for another big week for James Starks at RB for the Cheeseheads.

The pick- Green Bay(+3)

NHL:

-Colorado Avalanche@ Minnesota Wild (-1.5)
- I love BU west(read Colorado) with a goal and a half here. Colorado is the better team and the goals just makes this pick that much easier. Yip gets his first career hat trick with 3 assists from Shatty. Winner Winner chicken dinner.

The pick- Avalanche(+1.5)

-That is all I got for this week. Hopefully it turns out better than last week. Look for more articles on BU hockey and the pats game this weekend.

Bergeron leads as the Bruins Steamroll the Senators 6-0

It was a night of 3's for Patrice Bergeron. He scored the Bruins first goal only 3:33 into the tilt. He scored Boston's 3rd goal of the night in the second period (his 2nd), then followed that up with what (at the time) was Bergy's 3rd goal and Boston's 5th. When the credit for that goal was rightfully given to Brad Marchand, Patrice shook it off and found the back of the net for Boston's 6th and final goal. The fans who hadn't thrown their hats on the ice when Bergeron first thought he had the hat trick then relented and flooded the TD Garden rink. To accompany Patty's first career hatty, Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand had a goal and an assist while Blake Wheeler accounted for the other tally. Tim Thomas got the start in net for the B's and stopped all 31 shots he faced to preserve the shutout.

This was a welcome sign from the Bruins after pulling out a miraculous victory over the Crosby-less Pens last night, a game in which they played like they had just partied with the U-20 Russia team for the first 56 minutes and then shook off their hangover and poured it on in the last 4. The Bruins need more full 60 minute efforts like this if they want to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference as there are too many talented teams to take even half a period off any night.

The Black and Gold continue their 4 game homestand on Thursday when the Flyers come to town (always a fan favorite). The Bruins already beat the Flyers 3-0 back in December, and took a tough 2-1 overtime loss in their second tilt of the season...

Merrimack making Wednesday night's game their NCAA title game already

I was just reading some things over on the Warrior Rink Rat Blog which is the official blog for Merrimack Hockey run by my bff Mike McMahon from the Eagle Tribune. I was checking for weather updates and apparently there are 10-16 inches of snow predicted for the Merrimack Valley area but it could stop anytime from noon to 10p.m The game would most likely be rescheduled if the snow has not stopped by three or four and there is ten plus inches on the ground. Just a little update for people going to the game. There should be a decision midday tomorrow though and I will post it here as soon as I know.

McMahon then goes into an article titled "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!". If that doesn't scream this game is our most important one ever then I don't know what does. This clown then goes into detail how BU and Merrimack are number one and two in penalty minutes in Hockey East almost a minute a game ahead of that other school I don't like down in Newton. These teams did play two physical games in November that ended in ties but this is more of a way that Merrimack forces opponents to play as how BU plays consistently. BU plays a game depending on the opposing team and Merrimack forces you to play physical and get under your skin with their hitting after the whistle and consistent cheap shots lead by sophomore defenseman Kyle Bigos. McMahon defends the goon saying he often gets penalized just because he is bigger than the guys he is hitting.

"When Bigos, for example, outweighs an opposing player by 50 pounds and is sometimes as much as eight inches taller, a collision is going to have quite the negative effect on the smaller man.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to hit and it certainly doesn't mean the officials need to penalize him every time he does."

No, he gets penalized because he lands elbows to the head like its his job. An elbow to the head is a penalty. It doesn't matter if it is tough to avoid because he is tall and a goon. Don't hit people illegally and you won't get penalized. You need to be physical right back at this team in order to beat them. You need to find the line between physical and stupid. There is still a game to be won out there and I expect the Terriers to find this line and use to win the game tomorrow night. This team has all the motivation in the world to go stomp this team and it needs to happen. They got away with a less than 100% effort against UVM Sunday night but this is a HE game against the team directly behind you and you are fighting for HE home ice which is huge come March. There is no reason the Terriers shouldn't be able to come out flying and jump all over the Warriors. If they sit back and take the physical play they will get run out of the building like Maine did Saturday(7-1 MC win). They need to establish a checking game and take plenty of shots getting people to the front of the net. More shots need to be taken from this team. You're not going to win many games with only 16 shots on net. This is a big game as McMahon thinks but Merrimack is hyping it up even more so. It is their NCAA title game or something. BU needs to just go in there and win a big conference game and be done with Merrimack and their cheap shots for this year barring any postseason play.

McMahon then goes into detail about the Terriers and Warriors "rivalry" before November in the HE quarterfinal round last March. First, it isn't a rivalry until Merrimack actually does something. Make a NCAA tournament or even the HE tournament finals. Then we'll talk about this wanna-be rival.

His description of one event last March made me chuckle for a quite a while.

"The Warriors and Terriers combined for 163 penalty minutes in their three-game playoff series last spring where a melee broke out with just 1:14 left in the final game after Alex Chiasson tucked a shot on Stephane Da Costa and then threw a punch before Da Costa responded, grabbing Chiasson. The pair threw jabs at each other and both were ejected."

First, they both are French so this is hilarious that they are fighting because both probably was trying to surrender the whole time. Thankfully Chiasson is French Canadian so they just do whatever America tells them to. I just find it hilarious that he makes Chiasson out to be the bad guy here. Merrimack was trying to take cheap shots all series lead by Bigos. I was at all three games and I know what I saw. These guys were trying to draw BU into a fight and trying to steal the series. Don't go and act like Da Costa is always the victim as the whole MC fan base does. He gets hit just like your team does to everyone else. Either be a fan of physical hockey or don't. Don't change your mind depending on who is getting hit. Da Costa is a little French bitch who hopefully Courtnall send through the glass tomorrow night.

The rest of the article is stupid about home ice and where the Warriors rank nationally. One part of the article I did enjoy was that there reports that Yale has been cheating all season! That is why they are #1 besides paying the voters and playing cupcakes all year. Here is what is said

"Julie Robenhymer, a blogger for hockeybuzz.com, reported that Yale could be facing sanctions for playing Cahill, who she reported to be possibly ineligible.

Cahill took last season off for personal reasons, but according to Robenhymer, he was expelled from Yale for academic policy violations. He spent the year in France, playing for Les Phenix, tier-II team in the French Hockey Federation. According to Robenhymer, Cahill was playing for a team that compensated most of its players.

According to NCAA rule 12.2.3.2 in the NCAA Division 1 Manual, "an individual shall not be eligible for intercollegiate athletics in a sport if the individual ever competed on a professional team."

According to Robenhymer. an investigation is ongoing after an anonymous letter was sent to the NCAA and the ECAC. But Yale head coach Keith Allain, quoted in the Yale Daily News, denied that there was any investigation into Cahill's eligibility."

There is also a piece here from USCHO.Com about potential draft picks from the College Ranks which includes Matt Nieto, Adam Clendening, Sahir Gil, and other BU recruits.

Update- Sophomore defenseman Max NiCastro has been suspended for the game tomorrow night by Coach Parker for his actions Sunday night. NiCastro pushed a net into a ref after Vermont's second goal that resulted in a ten minute misconduct. This is all first reported by the Boston Hockey blog.

BU continues to drop in polls despite win

The BU Terriers mens ice hockey have fallen two more spots in the polls this week to #16 despite a 4-2 win last night in Burlington over Vermont. They have fallen to #16 in the USA Today poll behind three fellow HE teams(BC #3, Maine #13, Merrimack#15). This recent fall may upset some Terrier fans as the team got the the two points they could get this week and still fell in the polls behind HE rival Merrimack who the Terriers prepare to play Wednesday night barring any cancellation of postponement due to the projected blizzard for the game. These current rankings should give the Terriers all the motivation in the world to come out playing hard against Merrimack to prove everyone wrong including these "experts" who vote in the poll. This team will not panic as last year's team did but they know they got away with one last night as they got outshot and outplayed but still won the game. Coach Parker was extremely harsh on the team as was sophomore forward Alex Chiasson. Some guys simply were not giving their best effort and it almost cost the team 2 points in the conference standings. Here is how the rest of the the rankings worked out.
1. Yale- These idiots remain number one after a win over big bad Harvard who has so many drafted players oh wait no they don't.
2. North Dakota- My #1 team in the nation
3. Newton University(Boston College)- Hate them but they have been playing pretty damn well
4. New Hampshire- They continue to win but as the schedule heats up the they usually tend to fade in the second half.
5. Minnesota-Duluth-
6. Denver
7. Michigan
8. Notre Dame
9. Wisconsin
10. RPI-I hate these cheap
11. Nebraska-Omaha
12. Miami
13. Maine- This team has been extremely inconsistent and fading fast. They need to turn around soon or they are in big trouble and could miss the tournament all together.
14. Union- Overrated. I hate ECAC teams
15. Merrimack- I hate them even more but they have been playing well lately. Wednesday night's game is huge
16. BU- We will be back in the top ten by the end of the season I hope but we would be the last team in the tournament as of now according to the USCHO.COM
17. Colorado College
18. Western Michigan
19. Ferris State
20. Alaska

BSRS joins forces with www.LiveFootballChat.com

We have some exciting news here at BSRS headquarters. We have began a partnership with the LiveFootballChat.com and possibly the same with LiveHockeyChat.com.. There is no fee or anything like that to join. All you just need to do is make a username and password. This is simply a big chat room for people to talk and debate sporting events as they happen. Very similar to Boston Hockey Blog but on a much more national scale.

You can then chat with people all over the world. The company started in 2009 with the idea that it is a better option for people to chat about sporting events than Twitter. You can invite friends or buddies to join while also knowing who you are talking to at all times. The website is connected with both Twitter and Facebook so you can post directly from the website to your account. There is a possibility some of your favorite bloggers could be called on to host a chat room if there is enough interest in our readers out there. Leave a comment or simply like this post if this is something that you would want us to do and we can try to make it happen for you. This will hopefully gain us some more readers and help us entertain the people who do read the crap we write.

BU gets first win in over a month...edges UVM 4-2

In a game in which the BU Terriers got outshot 31 to 16, they certainly made every shot count. BU won its first game since the eight of December with a big 4-2 win at Vermont tonight. Sophomore forward Alex Chiasson had two goals while Max NiCastro and Corey Trivino added the others for the Terriers. This was huge win for this young BU team that is trying to answer all of its critics. Kieran Millan made 29 saves and the only two goals he allowed were tipped off of BU players in front of the net. The win solidifies third place in HE for the Terriers leading up to Wednesday night's matchup with Merrimack (who is coming off of a 7-1 thrashing). BSRS will be well represented at the game as GW, Raymundo, and myself will be making the trip up to North Andover to catch the game. It is a huge game for the Terriers as Merrimack sits three points back with one game in hand in the standings after they thrashed Maine. BU improves the overall record to 9-5-6 while UVM falls to a lowly 3-11-4. Look for the rankings coming out tomorrow afternoon and the pairwise rankings are updated. Wednesday night's game are big for both and should be a good one if the first two meetings were any sign as both ended in ties(2-2,3-3). Lawler Arena is a tough place to play so we will see if this young team can respond and build a winning streak.

The win also puts BU to #15 in the pairwise rankings up from #17.

Note- Parker was not pleased with the performance at all and the press conference was very similar to the ones after the games last year so look for the team to get fired up for the game Wednesday after he rips into them the next couple days.

BU basketball beats UVM...Hockey hopes to do the same later

The BU Terriers mens' basketball team beat the University of Vermont 74-65 today at Case Gym.Senior forward John Holland and junior guard Daryl Partin lead the Terriers with 24 points a piece. Freshman D.J. Irving added 16 more to help the Terriers improve to 2-1 in America East play this season and drop UVM to 2-1. The Terriers only went 8 deep throughout the whole game and won the second half convincingly as the game was tied at half time. This is a big win for the Terriers as they will take any wins they can get in conference play. The team plays next on Saturday in Albany to take on the Great Danes in another conference game.

The men's hockey team takes on UVM tonight now in a big Hockey East matchup for a Terriers team that is facing adversity. The young team has struggled as of late and coach Jack Parker recently dismissed junior forward Andrew Glass from the team. Tonight's game(which is on CBS college sports) should be a big test for this young team. Kieran Millan is expected to get the nod in net and forwards Alex Chiasson(leg) and Charlie Coyle(World Juniors) will be back in the line up after missing time last weekend.

Bye bye Glassy! Andrew Glass dismissed by Parker

The Boston Hockey Blog is reporting that junior forward Andrew Glass has been kicked off the Boston University hockey team for a "whole bunch of things" according to coach Jack Parker. At the time of the quote, Glass was still suspended indefinitely but has been dismissed from the team in the hours since. Glass was suspended for the season opener of the last season for breaking team rules and apparently has again started acting up. This leaves the team shorthanded off the bench as it only leaves two forwards inactive for each game and one defenseman. Glass must have really pissed Parker off to make this move mid-season and when he was the tenth highest scoring player on the team. The Wrentham,MA native is a seventh round draft pick of the Washington Capitals but his shot at the NHL now looks slim to none with nowhere to play for this coming semester. Look for him to try to hook on with a junior team for the remainder of this season and maybe transfer for next season...or maybe just make a fuckface club with the Saponari brothers and talk about how much of hardass Parker is for not encouraging all this shit and distractions that this young team does not need to see or hear about.

-Boston Hockey Blog also has a preview on the UVM-BU game Sunday up in Burlington.

-Freshman forward Charlie Coyle is back on campus from the world juniors and will have his first practice Saturday after being given a few days off by Coach Parker

- Sophomore forward Alex Chiasson is "100%" according to coach Parker and dropped the no contact jersey for Friday's practice.

Quack Quack's Money in the bank locks of the week

I went 2-2 last week going perfect in the NFL and winless in college including a tough one point loss in the TCU game in which they won by only 2 with a three point spread. They were killing me but hey you win some you lose some. Now standing 22-13 overall here goes another run at it this week.

NFL

Jets@Colts(-3)

- I hate both of these teams with a passion so I really hope both lose but that is impossible. So I am going with Indy at home because Rex Ryan runs his mouth too much and it annoys me. Hopefully once the game is out of hand Peyton tears his acl or stays healthy until James Harrison knocks him out next week in Pitt. This might be the only time I ever slightly root for the Colts ever but they just don't talk as much or have as many kids(Yes, I am talking about Antonio Cromartie). Looking at Peyton Manning still annoys me because he looks like such a fucking hick who just can't wait to get home and make love to a relative or Brett Favre. They would be perfect together. Anyway, Colts win by 10-14 in this one because Manning is better than Sanchez 100 out of 100 times.

The pick- Colts(-3)

Packers vs. Eagles O/U- 46.5

- Two of the best Qbs in the NFC battling here so I am taking the over. There is no way either defense can hold down either QB. MVP candidate Mike Vick is sure to put up some points while Aaron Rodgers put up 45 and lost last year in Arizona so he probably plans on putting up more than 45 this year.

The pick- Over

NCAA

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl
Nevada vs. BC
(+)
- I think if you know me at all you know where I am going with this one. Nevada all the way baby. BC sucks! Nevada beat Boise State so they gotta kill Newton College in this one. Go Wolfpack!

The pick-Nevada(-8)

-Other news and notes, ex-Terrier Colin Wilson had three points(1g,2a) last night for the Nashville Predators in their 5-2 win over the LA Kings at the Staples Center. See the highlight below.

-Kevin Shattenkirk extended his pointless streak to nine games after having an eight game point streak. These runs are what you are going to get with Shatty which we learned all too well last season.

BU Bridge must have had quite the crowd last night...

So our Terriers had a rough weekend out at the Shillelagh tournament in Chicago. The Terriers got thrashed by Brown 6-1 Saturday night. Coach Parker was critical of the team's play as they outshout Brown 42-24 but did not capitalize on any opportunities and could not bounce back after giving up a 2-1 lead early in the second. Kieran Millan had his worst game in net all season and the rest of the team followed. This was a poor effort with no excuses by the team. The team also lost forward Alex Chiasson in the game to a leg contusion that left him barely able to walk Sunday morning. The team also already missed Charlie Coyle who was competing in the World Juniors for Team USA(who got thrashed 4-1 by Canada tonight in the semifinals). Andy Glass was also suspended indefinitely for being late and missing team meetings according to Parker.

They needed to bounce back last night against #12 Notre Dame and they put forward a pretty good effort despite all of the adversity. It was not a perfect night as they gave up the tying goal while on the powerplay. Parker played only three lines with 11 forwards as he dressed 7 defenseman even though MacGregor did not see the ice all night. This lack of bodies seemed to take its toll as the Irish scored two in the third to tie the game. The game ended in a 3-3 tie with ND winning in a shootout which does not count in any rankings or polls. The Terriers got goals by driving hard to the net and tipping shots. These are the little things they did not do Saturday night and why they lost the game along with the difference in goaltending by Millan. I really give Parker and the goalie coach credit for rolling with Millan again because he is the best goalie we got and we need his confidence up for him to play at his best.

BU currently stands #14/15 in the nation and #19 in the pairwise rankings which decide the NCAA tournament pairings. It is also January so it is not a time to panic. I followed the live blog for both games on the Boston Hockey blog and I could not believe the amount of people bashing this team left and right. Are they playing their best hockey right now? Of course not but they just tied the #12 team in the nation with 11 forwards and missing their top 2 forwards arguably. The Terriers travel to Vermont this Sunday with a full team(Coyle returns Thursday, Chiasson should be healthy by then) and look to get a big win in the conference and for their confidence. I am a firm believer that this team will right the ship and end up making the tournament. There are going to be growing pains with a young team and this is one of those times. So don't jump off Bu Bridge just yet. They have a whole three months left of hockey(including the Beanpot to beat those bastards down in Newton) to turn this season around and build up some momentum for a post season run. Keep the faith.

Pats squish the fish 38-7 in meaningless game

The Patriots came out in a game that meant nothing and jumped all over a Miami team that was looking forward to hitting the golf courses this week(which I am pretty jealous about). The Patriots won 38-7 and now look forward to a bye week before hosting a divisional game in two weeks against the highest remaining seed. Tom Brady played into the third and had 199 yards with a couple of TD passes. Ben Jarvus Green Ellis finished a consistant season with 80 yards rushing giving him 1010 yards on the season. Rookie TE Rob Gronkowski hauled in six catches for 102 yards and a TD setting the all-time patriots record for tight end in a season. Julian Edelman added a 94 yard punt return for a TD and it was another stomping by the Patriots who have had one close game since Thanksgiving. This game was meaningless so I will jump to the winners and losers now.

Winners
1. Tom Brady-read above
2. Ben Jarvus Green Ellis- first 1,000 yard rusher since Corey Dillon is impressive for an undrafted free agent
3. Rob Gronkowski- the rookie TE looks to be a favorite target for tom brady for years to come
4. Julian Edelman- that punt return is just impressive especially for a white dude to outrun the whole punt coverage team
5. Defense- complete team effort to hold the dolphins scoreless until the refs felt bad and started making up penalties at the end of the game

Losers
1. Chad Henne- He is just not an NFL QB
